What are the responsibilities and job description for the 2025 - 2026 Aniticpated Opening Art Teacher (Grades 7 - 12) position at Palmer High School?
Duties to include:
1. Teaches knowledge and skills in art, including crafts, drawing, painting, lettering, design, commercial art, art history, and three-dimensional art, following the course of study adopted by the School Committee, and other appropriate learning activities.
2. Instructs pupils in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the school.
3. Provides instruction by which pupils develop aesthetic concepts and appreciations and the ability to make qualitative judgments about art.
4. Demonstrates techniques in activities such as drawing, painting, and modeling, using standard and teacher-prepared instructional aids.
5. Develops instructional plans and organizes class time to provide a balanced program of instruction, demonstration, and working time.
6. Provides individual and small-group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of pupils with varying intellectual and artistic abilities, and to accommodate a variety of instructional activities.
7. Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior needed to provide an orderly and productive student environment.
8. Instructs pupils in proper care and use of tools and equipment.
9. Organizes storage areas and controls use of materials, equipment and tools to prevent loss or abuse, and to minimize time required for distribution and collection.
10. Evaluates each pupil’s performance and growth in knowledge and aesthetic understandings, and prepares progress reports.
11. Selects and requisitions books, instructional materials, tools, instructional aids, and maintains required inventory records.
12. Plans and presents art displays and exhibitions designed to exhibit pupils’ work for the school and the community.
13. May sponsor exhibits from outside the school.
14. Maintains professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the school and/or in self-selected professional growth activities.
15. Maintains an auditable record of pupil attendance and makes daily reports of pupils absent each period.
16. Assigns citizenship and scholarship marks.
17. Communicates with parents and school counselors on pupil progress.
18. Participates in curriculum and other developmental programs within the school.
19. Any other duties as may be assigned by Administration.
20. Provide standards-based instruction and supplemental support along with modifications and accommodations as required while maintaining a safe environment conducive to learning.
21. Plan and deliver modified and differentiated lessons for students.
22. Update and maintain Rediker for student grades and report cards.
23. Attends and participates in scheduled PLC, 504 and IEP meetings.
