Position: Sales Estimator
Summary:
The Sales Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate and competitive project cost estimates, working closely with the sales, engineering, and operations teams. This role involves analyzing project plans and specifications, performing material take-offs, and developing pricing strategies to acquire new business successfully. The Sales Estimator reports directly to the Sales Manager.
Key Responsibilities:
- Project Evaluation: Review project documents, including blueprints, specifications, and addendums, to develop a clear understanding of project scope and requirements.
- Cost Estimation: Based on project plans, calculate material, labor, equipment, and other associated costs to prepare detailed and accurate cost estimates.
- Bid Preparation: Develop and submit timely, competitive, and profitable bids and proposals to potential clients.
- Vendor Coordination: Solicit and evaluate quotes from suppliers and subcontractors to ensure the best pricing and availability of materials and services.
- Collaboration: Work closely with the sales team to strategize bid opportunities and present estimates and proposals to clients.
- Risk Assessment: Identify and assess potential risks and opportunities associated with each project to ensure accurate pricing.
- Value Engineering: Recommend cost-effective alternatives that meet the project’s specifications and client requirements.
- Data Management: Maintain accurate and organized records of all estimates, bids, and related documents for future reference and analysis.
- Market Analysis: Stay informed on market conditions, industry trends, and competitor activities to provide insights that can improve bid success rates.
- Client Interaction: Engage with clients to clarify project requirements, answer questions, and provide post-bid follow-up.
- Continuous Improvement: Identify and implement process improvements to enhance the efficiency and accuracy of the estimating process.
- Software Proficiency: Utilize estimating software and tools effectively to streamline the estimation process.
- Site Visits: Visit customer sites to review and close bids as needed.
