Equestrian Instructor, Part-Time

Job Summary:

The Equestrian Instructor will provide exceptional customer service and care to members, guests, associates and horses while administering programs at Longfield Stables. This individual will be responsible for the teaching and training of equestrian riders from beginners to intermediate students. Will always ensure a consistently high level of satisfaction and pride at Longfield Stables.

Essential Job Functions:

• The Equestrian Instructor will provide top quality instruction to riders of all ages from beginners to intermediate level.
• Administer horsemanship lessons, trail rides, pony programs, kids programming including camps and basic care lessons for horses.
• Assist in feeding, watering, haying, cleaning, mucking stalls and turning out/in.
• Assist in bathing, grooming, clipping, pulling manes and wrapping legs
• Assist in cleaning fly gear, saddle pads, leg wraps, blankets, and tack.
• Ensures cleanliness and condition of all areas
• Ensure standards of safety are upheld and adhered to at all times by employees, guests and clients of Longfield Stables.
• Meet or exceed client expectations with regard to level of service and expectations
• Daily cleaning of barns, pastures and facilities.
• Daily horse health care
• Monitoring of turnout areas for safety and cleanliness; assistance with event set up.
• Weekly stocking of supplies.

Qualifications:

• 2 years working in an equine/equestrian facility with similar duties and requirements.
• Minimum 4 years hands-on horse experience
• High school education or equivalent preferred
• Extensive knowledge of horses, care, training and equine behavior required
• Knowledge of basic horse health, first aid and nutrition
• Knowledge of farm machinery such as tractors and equipment preferred
• Effective communication skills required
• Ability to multi-task and be detail oriented
• Good problem solving abilities
• Excellent horse husbandry and horse handling skills
• Must be able to remain calm, think clearly and act quickly and effectively in emergency situations

Physical Requirements:

• Position involves walking, sitting, standing and/or movement throughout the day. 
• Position involves sitting, standing, stooping, kneeling, pushing, shoving, lifting, carrying and moving objects that can weigh up to 100 lbs. 
• Position may involve riding, exercising and lunging of horses. 
• Required to perform job in all types of weather conditions.
