Senior Accountant

Description

We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Senior Accountant to lead our accounting operations, with a specific focus on overseeing the Accounts Payable (AP) function. This role is responsible for ensuring accurate financial reporting, general ledger maintenance, process improvements, and AP management. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of GAAP and financial controls, as well as leadership experience in managing an AP team. Previous experience in the retail industry is not required but preferred. 

Key Responsibilities: 

• General Accounting & Financial Reporting 

• Oversee specific general ledger accounting, ensuring accuracy and compliance with GAAP. 

• Prepare budget-to-actual performance for monthly expenses, journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial statements. 

• Active participation in month-end and year-end close process, ensuring timely reporting. 

• Assist in annual budget planning, forecasting, and variance analysis. 

• Lease accounting for all new and existing leases. Monthly reconciliation of changes in lease payment detail. Annual budget of rent.   

• Accounts Payable Management 

• Supervise the Accounts Payable team, ensuring timely and accurate processing of invoices and payments. 

• Monthly accounts payable reconciliation with inventory system and accruals for unrecorded accounts payable.  

• Ensure compliance with internal controls, policies, and regulatory requirements. 

• Streamline AP processes, improving efficiency and automation. 

• Audit, Compliance & Controls 

• Assist with managing and preparing documentation for annual external audit.  

• Ensure adherence to GAAP and company financial policies. 

• Prepare monthly sales tax filings for multiple states. 

• Process Improvement & Systems Management 

• Collaborate with Operations and Distribution Center teams, offering financial insights and inventory analytics. Assist with identifying trends and improving inventory management strategies. 

• Identify and implement process efficiencies in accounting and AP workflows. 

• Support accounting system enhancements and automation initiatives. 

• Develop and maintain AP performance metrics and reporting.

Qualifications

Education: 

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. 

• CPA or CMA certification is a plus. 

Experience: 

• 5 years of accounting experience, with at least 2 years in a leadership role. 

• Less than 5 years experience can be considered for Accountant role 

• Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, and AP processes. 

• Experience managing an Accounts Payable team. 

• Proficiency in QuickBooks accounting system. 

• Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, financial modeling). 

• Previous experience in retail industry is a plus
