Job Summary:

• Provide out-of-hospital patient care, under the direction of the Paramedic on duty and EMS Director appropriate to the age of each patient per protocols as established by the medical director. Assist with patient care in emergency department as needed within established guidelines/policies. This includes provision for the proper physical, emotional and spiritual care of patient.
• Paramedic - Under the general direction of the EMS Coordinator, provide out-of-hospital care appropriate to the age of each patient per established protocols established by the medical director. Assist with patient care in the emergency department within established guidelines/policies, which is under direction, supervision, and license of the Registered Nurse. This includes provision for the proper physical, emotional and spiritual care of patients also continuing education activities for EMS staff, outlying first responders and nursing.
• The Ambulance Driver under the direction of the Ambulance Coordinator or Paramedic on duty, responds to emergency and non-emergency ambulance calls to drive the ambulance in a safe and prudent manner. Assists Paramedics and EMTs with out-of-hospital care when necessary.

EMT Education/Requirements/Knowledge/Skills

• High school diploma or GED required;
• EMT-I or B certification preferred
• Current BLS certification required
• Requires valid Iowa driver's license with clean motor vehicle record with minimum violations and no OWI convictions
• Must be able to respond to an emergency call and be at the Hospital Ambulance Bay within 7 minutes
• Completion of an emergency vehicle driving course
• Must possess good oral and written communication skills

Paramedic Education/Requirements/Knowledge/Skills

• High school diploma or GED required; Associate degree and/or 2 years managerial experience preferred
• Iowa State certified paramedic required.
• Basic Life Instructor Trainer preferred.
• Current BLS, ACLS, PALS, and PHTLS certifications required.
• A minimum of one to two years field experience as EMT-B and/or Paramedic preferred
• Acceptable motor vehicle driving record.
