Job Summary:

The Purchasing Director administers and directs a program to purchase essential supplies and equipment for hospital and clinic's use. Purchases shall be made under contracts through the GPO which the hospital is a member. Reports to the Chief Financial Officer.

Education/Requirements/Knowledge/Skills:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Experience preferred - 3 years or more
  • College preferred - Associates degree or higher.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Reviews, investigates and orders all new items and equipment while still being compliant with GPO.
  • Selects and maintains sources of supplies and/or product information using progressive purchasing techniques and methods.
  • Maintains current file and information on GPO agreements and serves as hospital contact for contract information and compliance.
  • Directs and completes year-end inventory process throughout hospital. Compiles final department totals.
  • Requests, reviews and analyzes bids for Capital purchases and for purpose of departmental budgets.
  • Arranges for repairs, returns and exchanges for PACHS.
  • Establishes and maintains effective and current Purchasing policies and procedures.
  • Maintains responsiveness and effective communications with PACHS regarding purchasing related issues and insures their solutions.
  • Regularly attends monthly department head meetings and quarterly network meetings.
  • Makes decisions concerning recruitment, selection, training, supervision, employee progress and evaluation of departmental personnel.
  • Prepares and reviews Purchasing's financial, personnel and budget reports.
  • Consults with department heads to determine quality, effectiveness and durability of products.
  • Prepares QA information and submits timely.
  • Routinely strives to balance cost, delivery, and quality to every area of PACHS by challenging our suppliers through a competitive environment in which they bring forth optimal quality, pricing, and delivery of goods and designated services
  • Adapts positively to the ever changing healthcare environment by supporting technology and process changes
