What are the responsibilities and job description for the Veterinary Technician position at Palo Pinto Veterinary Clinic?
Duties:
-Support the veterinarian during appointments, examinations, and medical procedures
-Ensure efficiency during patient care by reviewing patient charts and preparing all proper vaccinations, etc.
-Communicating with clients, collecting a detailed medical history as well as reviewing discharge papers and prescription/treatment plan instructions under the instruction of the veterinarian.
-Review vaccination records and prepare vaccines according to our vaccine protocol.
-Fill prescriptions according to our pharmacy protocol.
-Support veterinarians in procedures using accurate restraint; know how to restrain fractious patients
-Administer medications intravenous, oral subcutaneous, and intramuscular.
-Collecting samples and running in-house lab work such as heart worm tests, urinalysis, ear cytology, Heska CBC and chemistry machines
- Maintain and input medical records in our PM software, Vetbadger.
-Take digital radiographs with accurate positioning and techniques.
-Take vital signs of animals including temperature, pulse, and respiration.
-Venipuncture and placing IV catheters.
-Complete anal gland expression, ear cleanings, and nail trims
-Preparing and maintaining patient ICU sheets
-Show excellent client communication and telephone skills as well as excellent written communication skills with proficient spelling.
-Thrive in a busy, fast-paced environment
Experience:
- Minimum of 2-3 years of experience working as a veterinary technician
- Proficient in animal restraint techniques for various species
- Experience in providing animal care
- Knowledge of equine/ large animal care and handling is a plus
- Experience in maintaining animal husbandry practices for cleanliness and disease prevention
