Purpose Statement:


1.  The job of Education Assistant - K-3 Reading is done for the purpose/s of improving students’, kindergarten through third grade, success in reading; monitoring students in a variety of settings.


This job reports to Principal/Teacher


Essential Functions

  • Assists the teacher in providing direct instruction to students who experience difficulties with reading and math for the purpose of addressing specific reading/writing needs as determined by the school’s intervention or leadership team.
  • Assists students in computer lessons for the purpose of providing instruction and increasing student achievement.
  • Confers with the teacher, as may be required, for the purpose of providing input into the evaluation of students’ progress an/or implementing/modifying students’ objectives.
  • Facilitates the parent involvement activities for the purpose of ensuring that the policies are promoted and made readily available to parents for review.
  • Instructs small groups of students, as appropriate, in reading/language arts and writing in close proximity of the teacher for the purpose of implementing goals for remediation of student deficiencies and ensuring students’ success as planned by the teacher.
  • Maintains classroom equipment, work areas, student files/records (e.g. clean up after various class projects, entering grades, adapting instructional materials, audiovisual equipment, etc.) for the purpose of providing a clean and organized environment and ensuring availability of items and/or providing reliable information.
  • Monitors students during assigned periods within a variety of school environments (e.g. classrooms, restrooms, hallways, cafeteria, labs, field trips, etc.) for the purpose of enabling students to participate in all classroom activities, aiding students in communicating with others, acting as a liaison for, and ensuring the safety and welfare of students.
  • Organizes instructional materials for the purpose of assisting the teacher and providing access to needed information.
  • Participates in in-service workshops and training for the purpose of receiving and/or conveying information related to job functions.
  • Provides instructional support services within the classroom, as well as within the school’s media center, for the purpose of assisting students with their academic endeavors.
  • Provides one-on-one tutoring, if scheduled at a time when the student would not otherwise receive instruction from a teacher, for the purpose of assisting the teacher in improving students’ academic success through a defined course of study.
  • Responds to emergency situations (e.g. injured student, fights, etc.) for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns and/or directing situations to appropriate personnel for resolution.


Job Requirements: 


SKILLS are required to perform multiple tasks using existing skills. Specific skill based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: adhering to safety practices; operating standard office equipment, including computers and pertinent software applications; preparing and maintaining accurate records.

 

KNOWLEDGE is required to perform basic math, including calculations using fractions, percents, and/or ratios; read and follow instructions; and understand multi-step written and oral instructions. Specific knowledge based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: age appropriate activities, business telephone etiquette, concepts of grammar and punctuation, and safety practices and procedures.


ABILITY is required to schedule activities; gather and/or collate data; and use job-related equipment. Flexibility is required to work with others in a variety of circumstances; work with data utilizing defined but different processes; and operate equipment using defined methods. Ability is also required to work with a diversity of individuals; work with similar types of data; and utilize specific, job-related equipment. Some problem solving may be required to identify issues and select action plans. Problem solving with data may require independent interpretation; and problem solving with equipment is limited to moderate.

 

Specific ability based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: adapting to changing work priorities; communicating with diverse groups; maintaining confidentiality; working as part of a team; working with frequent interruptions; and ability to read, write, and communicate clearly in English.

 

Other Functions
Assists other personnel, as may be required, for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities.


Work Environment
The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, and some fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 20% sitting, 30% walking, and 50% standing. The job is performed under minimal temperature variations and in a clean atmosphere.

 

Experience:Job related experience is desired.
Education: High school diploma or equivalent.

This is a 10 month School Year position only.

 

 

2.  The job of Crossing Guard is done for the purpose/s of providing for the safety and welfare of students in transit to and/or from school; and communicating observations and/or incidents that may impact the general well being of students.

 

This job reports to Principal

 

Essential Functions:

  • Assists students, parents, seniors etc. at cross walks
  • Communicates school policies and enforcement procedures to students, personnel and visitors
  • Directs students, e.g., guides and instructs in proper entry and crossing of roads, etc.
  • Intervenes in potential emergency situations
  • Maintains equipment, e.g., stop signs, vests, street signs, etc.
  • Monitors students
  • Reports observations and/or incidents relating to specific students and drivers, e.g., accidents, fights, inappropriate social behavior, violations of rules, dangerous driving, etc.
  • Responds to emergency situations, e.g., students injured walking or bike riding to school
  • Assists other personnel

 

Qualifications: Less than high school.

 

Requirements:

  • Criminal Justice/fingerprint clearance
  • Ability to read, write and communicate clearly in English

 

This is a 10 month School Year position only.

 

 

3.  The job of Noon Assistant is done for the purpose/s of providing for the safety and welfare of students during lunchroom and/or playground activities; minimizing the frequency or severity of harmful incidents; and communicating observations and/or incidents that may impact the general well-being of students and school personnel.


This job reports to Principal

 

This is a 2 hour daily - 10 month School Year position only.


Essential Functions

  • Assists with duties assigned on the playground and in the cafeteria for the purpose of ensuring that student needs are met.
  • Assists students (e.g. retrieving utensils, cleaning spills, finding seats, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring a safe, timely and healthy mealtime experience.
  • Assists in arranging food and beverage items, condiments, and utensils at the cafeteria counter and the snack cart(s) for the purpose of making items available to the students.
  • Reports misbehavior to teachers for the purpose of providing information and ensuring the safety and welfare of all students.
  • Supervises students on the playground for the purpose of enforcing playground rules and immediate intervention when the safety of any child is threatened.

 

Other Functions

  • Assists other personnel, as may be required, for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities.

Responsibility
Responsibilities include: working under direct supervision using standardized procedures; leading, guiding, and/or coordinating others; operating within a defined budget.
