What are the responsibilities and job description for the Banquet Captain position at Paloma Resort Properties?
Responsible for assisting Banquet Manager and Banquet Supervisor with directly supervising the banquet service during the functions at the club. Supervises banquet service personnel to assure member and guest satisfaction through proper food and beverage service and presentation.
EXPERIENCE
A knowledge of the sequence of service and dining room procedures is essential as well as a minimum of 1-2 years restaurant experience. Customer service are a must as well as the ability to multi-task while maintaining a polite and courteous manner.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
1. Responsible for member and guest satisfaction with food and beverage service in all banquet areas.
2. Attends day-of event food and beverage pre-meetings to review event order information to communicate thoroughly to banquet staff.
3. Works closely with to coordinate personnel requirements for private functions.
4. Inspects finished arrangements; present to oversee the actual service and greeting of guests.
5. Assures the correct appearance, cleanliness and proper set-up of the dining rooms used for each catering event. Checks the maintenance of all equipment in the dining rooms and reports deficiencies.
6. Assists with developing detailed side work, timeline and assignments for staff for each catered event in conjunction with guest requests.
7. Assists with holding pre-function and post-function meetings with servers and bartenders to ensure smooth, efficient service; and clean-up of all banquet areas.
8. Ensures that all wait and bar banquet staff is well groomed and in proper uniforms (including name tags).
9. Provides immediate attention to all members/guests upon seating.
10. Informs guests of specials and menu changes, makes suggestions and answers questions regarding food, beverage and service.
11. Takes food and beverage orders and properly places them with the kitchen and bar using POS system on special member events.
12. Processes orders to assure that all items are prepared properly and served on a timely basis.
13. Serves meals and drinks following the proper rules of service.
14. Observes diners to ensure that members are satisfied with the food and service, responds to additional requests.
15. Removes soiled dishes, glasses and silverware after each course.
16. Suggests and serves desserts, coffee and after dinner drinks when applicable
17. Obtains account information, verifies validity of the account, obtains signatures and checks that all items served have been charged to the account, when applicable.
18. Completes assigned side work before and after each shift.
19. Checks assigned tables for proper set-up and corrects any deficiencies.
20. Keeps banquet dining rooms and service areas neat, clean and in an orderly manner.
21. Makes suggestions about improvements in banquet service procedures and layout
22. Assists in handling client complaints. Informs Banquet Manager of details.
23. Assists Banquet Manager with training of wait and/or bar banquet staff.
24. Performs all reasonable requested work from Banquet Manager or Supervisor to include working in the ala carte dining room/bar area for big club events when ballroom is not in session for events.
SUPPORTIVE FUNCTIONS
In addition to performance of the essential functions, this position may be required to perform a combination of the following supportive functions, with the percentage of the time performing each function to be solely determined by the director based upon departmental and hotel needs.
• Assist with set up and breakdown of events
• Assist with training servers and bussers on set up and breakdown.

Physical Requirements:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, talk, and listen. The employee frequently is required to walk; use hands, fingers to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; and climb or balance. The employee is occasionally required to sit; stoop, kneel and crouch; and taste or smell. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth vision and ability to adjust focus.
