Job Duties
The Student Life and Leadership department is seeking qualified part-time counselors to provide counseling and support for students alleged of violating the student code of conduct going through the disciplinary process in accordance with Assembly Bill 1575 (AB1575). Major duties and responsibilities include:
- Ensuring all disciplinary processes adhere to District policies, legal standards, and ethical guidelines, including due process rights for students.
- Providing students with support, information, and resources regarding their rights and responsibilities.
- Leading or supporting restorative justice initiatives and programming to promote a safe and respectful environment.
- Investigating allegations of student misconduct in accordance with the District’s student code of conduct and student discipline procedures, and adjudicate violations.
- Referring students to campus resources to support their overall well-being and success.
Minimum Qualifications
Must meet one of the sets of qualifications listed under 1) through 3):
- A Master’s in counseling, rehabilitation counseling, clinical psychology, counseling psychology, guidance counseling, educational counseling, social work, career development, marriage and family therapy or marriage, family and child counseling.
- A Bachelor’s degree in any of the disciplines listed in 1) above AND a license as a Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT), pursuant to Title 5, Section 53410.1 of the California Code of Regulations.
- A combination of education and experience that is at least the equivalent of the qualifications in either 1) or 2) above. You must complete and attach the Application for Equivalency form (www.palomar.edu/hr/equivalency-app/), if you do not possess the specific minimum qualifications as stated above, which includes degrees that have not been awarded at the time of submitting the application.
Only coursework completed at, and degrees awarded by, accredited institutions recognized by the U.S. Department of Education will be considered as satisfying the minimum qualifications. Coursework and degrees that are completed outside of the United States are required to have transcripts evaluated (evaluation to U.S. equivalency and a course by course analysis) by an appropriate U.S. credentials evaluation service. Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in student conduct or judicial affairs.
- Knowledge of student conduct codes, disciplinary procedures, and student rights.
- Experience handling student crises, including emotional distress, behavioral issues, and conflict resolution.
- Experience in handling conduct hearings, investigations, and resolutions in a higher education context.

Supervision Received

The person selected for hire will be required to complete the following pre-employment requirements: live scan/fingerprinting, official transcript(s), TB risk assessment, and employment verification(s). Other pre-employment requirements may be required depending on the position (i.e. certifications or licenses; see applicable job posting section for details). Successful completion of all pre-employment requirements is mandatory to be eligible for employment.
