Overview

We are looking for an Occupational Therapist (OT) who is a Certified Driving Rehabilitation Specialist (CDRS) or interested in becoming a CDRS to join our team. In this specialized role, the CDRS Occupational Therapist will work with individuals who have physical, cognitive, or sensory impairments to assess their ability to drive safely and provide rehabilitative interventions. The ideal candidate will have expertise in driving assessments, adaptive driving solutions, and a passion for helping individuals regain their independence and mobility.

Responsibilities

The Occupational Therapist will be primarily responsible for direct patient care, planning and implementing specific treatment programs in an age appropriate manner for individual patients according to the principles and practices of occupational therapy in the PAM Health System.  The Occupational Therapist will additionally be involved in the further development of the services.  The Occupational Therapist must be flexible to meet the needs of the System within many different facilities.  Performs other related duties as assigned or requested. 

  • Driving Assessments: Conduct comprehensive driving evaluations for clients with a variety of conditions (neurological, orthopedic, age-related changes, etc.), assessing physical, cognitive, and sensory skills to determine their readiness and safety for driving.
  •  Intervention Planning: Develop individualized treatment plans that address the specific needs and goals of each client, including recommendations for vehicle modifications, adaptive equipment, and strategies to enhance driving safety.
  •  Therapeutic Interventions: Provide hands-on therapy, including strengthening, coordination, and sensory training, to improve driving skills and independence. Offer rehabilitation focused on mobility, visual and motor coordination, and cognitive function necessary for driving.  Education and Training: Educate clients and their families on driving-related concerns, safe driving practices, and proper use of adaptive equipment. Provide training for clients on the safe operation of modified vehicles and assist with the acquisition of driving permits, if necessary.
  •  Collaboration: Work closely with a multidisciplinary team, including physicians, rehabilitation specialists, social workers, and insurance providers, to ensure a holistic approach to each client’s driving rehabilitation.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate, up-to-date records of assessments, treatment plans, progress reports, and client communications. Document outcomes and submit reports to appropriate professionals, including healthcare providers and insurance companies.
  •  Continuous Education: Stay current with developments in driving rehabilitation, adaptive technologies, and industry standards by attending training, conferences, and maintaining certification as a Certified Driving Rehabilitation Specialist (CDRS).

Qualifications

  •  Education: Degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited program.
  •  Licensure: Current, valid state licensure as an Occupational Therapist (OT) in Kansas.
  •  Certification: Certified Driving Rehabilitation Specialist (CDRS) credential required or interest in obtainment of certification. To be a CDRS, Certification through the Association for Driver Rehabilitation Specialists (ADED) or equivalent certification body is required.
  • Skills:
  •  Strong clinical reasoning and problem-solving abilities.
  •  Ability to conduct detailed assessments, including cognitive, physical, and sensory evaluations.
  •  Knowledge of adaptive equipment and modifications for vehicles.
  •  Excellent communication skills, with the ability to educate and engage clients and their families.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  •  Physical Requirements: Ability to lift, carry, and maneuver adaptive equipment and assist clients during therapy sessions.
