Overview
MT performs prescribed laboratory procedures and specimen analysis for inpatients and outpatients. Performs other related duties as assigned or requested. This is an exempt position.
Responsibilities
- Collects and/or prepares human samples for analysis in a timely, efficient manner.
- Calibrates, conducts performance checks, and maintains clinical laboratory instruments and equipment in optimal condition.
- Conducts established quality control procedures on analytical tests, equipment, reagents, media, and laboratory products; establishes new ranges for controls.
- Recognizes reagents or media from prescribed procedures or from literature and makes necessary computations.
- Follows prescribed procedures in performing tests.
- Assesses the plausibility of laboratory results through consolidating data with common physiological conditions.
- Ensures results are documented appropriately and patient reports are received by designated physicians.
- Keeps physician and supervisor informed of clinical variations, including unusual patient data or results.
- Ensures charges are processed accurately and efficiently.
- Serves as a liaison between hospital and reference labs.
- Observes established safety standards and monitors staff in work safety.
- Provides ongoing education to designated staff regarding policy & procedures.
- Assists with changes/updates to charge master. Monitors monthly invoices as assigned.

Qualifications
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Training: Baccalaureate degree in the clinical laboratory sciences from an accredited college or university; or, Graduation from an accredited school of Medical Technology. Credentialed by the American Society of Clinical Pathologist in Medical Technology.
Experience: Minimum 2 years experience as generalist.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Must work well with patients.
- Must be able to develop and maintain good interdepartmental relations.
- Must be self-starter with the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
