We seek a Junior Weather Analyst to support our trading and research teams by providing timely and accurate weather analysis, which plays a critical role in energy price forecasting and risk management.
Role Summary
The Junior Weather Analyst will be responsible for monitoring, analyzing, and interpreting weather patterns and their potential impact on energy markets. The ideal candidate has a strong meteorological background, an analytical mindset, and an eagerness to work in a fast-paced trading environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Weather Forecasting & Analysis: Track and interpret global weather patterns, focusing on temperature fluctuations, storm developments, and seasonal trends that affect energy demand and supply.
- Market Impact Assessments: Assess the potential impact of weather conditions on power, natural gas, and oil markets, providing actionable insights to traders.
- Model Interpretation: Analyze outputs from numerical weather prediction (NWP) models such as the GFS, ECMWF, and NAM to produce short-term and long-term forecasts.
- Data Integration & Visualization: Work with raw weather data, develop charts, and create dashboards to visualize weather trends and their market implications.
- Collaboration with Traders: Provide real-time weather updates, risk assessments, and strategic input to the trading desk.
- Report Generation: Prepare daily and weekly weather reports tailored to energy market needs.
Qualifications & Skills
Required:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Meteorology, Atmospheric Science, or a related field.
- Strong analytical skills and familiarity with weather models (GFS, ECMWF, NAM, etc.).
- Experience with Python for data analysis.
- Basic knowledge of energy markets, especially natural gas, power, and renewables.
- Ability to work in a high-pressure, fast-paced environment with traders and analysts.
Preferred:
- Prior experience in an energy trading firm, commodity research team, or financial institution.
- Familiarity with R, Matlab, GIS tools, SQL databases, or data visualization platforms (Tableau, Power BI).
- Understanding of statistical modeling and machine learning applications in weather forecasting.
- Strong communication skills for delivering weather insights in a concise and actionable manner.
