This is a non-supervisory assignment which performs a specialized function for the investigation and prosecution of criminal cases. The Digital Evidence Forensic Analyst works in an office environment, with occasional response to crime scene related calls for service during and after normal working hours. The Digital Evidence Forensic Analyst performs technical criminal investigative work related to the collection, preservation and identification of evidence, including electronic devices, cellular phones, computers, electronic data storage media and the data contained within. The Digital Evidence Forensic Analyst testifies in a court of law and attends any required legal proceedings. The Digital Evidence Forensic Analyst assists with the recovery, storage, processing, analysis and lawful disposition of evidence.This is an emergency essential position that requires performance of emergency duties and actions to prepare, repair, and recover the City before, during, and after any adverse storm events (hurricane, tornado, tropical storm, winter storm, ice storm, etc.) or other conditions (natural or manmade).ESSENTIAL DUTIESTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Properly document and seize cellular phones, computers, computer storage media and electronic storage devices from crime scenes and other locations.Conduct forensic examinations of cellular phones, computer systems, components and storage media and electronic storage devices to obtain evidence contained within.Perform duties in a variety of environments with a broad range and length of hours with limited notification. Gather, develop and organize criminal intelligence and submit reportsOperate department vehicles and crime scene equipment. Maintain specialized equipment assigned to the Investigative Services Section.Prepare reports documenting examination procedures and results.Prepares crime specific bulletins and distributes them as required.Attend training and show proficiency of knowledge.Coordinate with various department sections and outside governmental agencies to effectively prosecute cases.Attends meetings with external organizations related to the position.Operate with an understanding and practice of operational secrecy.Prepares subpoenas for evidence collection.Review and prepare written reports to mandated standards.Provide training to department personnel who may encounter electronic evidence in the course of their duties. Provide witness testimony in legal and court proceedings.Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.Performs other duties as assigned. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIESStrong skills with Microsoft products including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.Ability to independently and effectively learn and utilize third-party software.Skills in maintaining exceptional levels of confidentiality and understanding of the sensitive nature at all times both on and off duty.Strong communication skills both in written and oral format.Ability to work with various team members, leaders, other departments and the general public in an effective, team focused, cooperative and customer focused manner.Knowledge of digital forensics principles, tools, technics and analysis.Ability to complete all assigned and/or recommended training programs.Ability to work varying schedules. Knowledge of applicable laws, regulations, and best practices related to digital evidence handling and forensic analysis.Knowledge of data storage systems, operating systems, and file structures for mobile devices, computers, and other electronic media.Knowledge of criminal investigations and legal procedures for evidence handling, including chain of custody and evidence documentation.Skilled in conducting forensic examinations on a wide variety of digital evidence, including mobile phones, computers, and storage media.Skilled in operating forensic software tools and equipment for evidence analysis.Skilled in writing clear and concise reports documenting forensic findings and case information.Skilled in preparing and presenting evidence in a legal setting, including court testimony.Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines, especially in emergency situations or extended hours.Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.Ability to train others on the proper handling of digital evidence and forensic procedures.Ability to work collaboratively with internal departments and external law enforcement agencies to achieve case goals.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
High school diploma or generally accepted equivalent. One (1) year of prior experience in a field involving digital forensics with a law enforcement agency preferred. Bachelor’s degree in digital forensics or a related field preferred.
