Under the leadership and general guidance of the Director of Public Works the Lift Station Technician performs journeyman level mechanical work in the Lift Stations Division. This position performs skilled work in the installation, maintenance and repair of the mechanical equipment, piping and property of the lift stations. Preparation of maintenance reports and maintaining accurate and comprehensive records is critical in this role. Ongoing mechanical repairs and skills in manual labor are critical to the success of this team member. This is an emergency essential position that requires performance of emergency duties and actions to prepare, repair, and recover the City before, during, and after any adverse storm events (hurricane, tornado, winter storm event, flooding, ice storm, etc.) or other conditions (natural or manmade).ESSENTIAL DUTIESTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Maintains accurate, timely and complete records for all work performed. Cleans sewage spills and applies chemicals as required per Federal, State and Local laws, regulations and policies.Responds to emergency and trouble calls to locate and identify the cause and performs corrective actions as required. Completes work in an efficient, professional, team focused, accurate and timely manner. Operates light and heavy-duty trucks, boom trucks, heavy lifting equipment, portable pumping equipment, power generation equipment, lawn maintenance equipment and various tools. Properly maintains all equipment and supplies in proper and safe working orderIndependently performs maintenance and repair work of a routine nature. Assists with training and instruction of new team members.Assists in the review and evaluation of completed work assignments. Maintains frequently used parts and supplies on the assigned truck to ensure all parts needed for any given assignment are available and restocked as used. Performs other duties as assigned.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIESKnowledge of the methods, practices, tools and equipment used in mechanical repair and maintenance work of lift stations. Knowledge of the hazards and necessary safety precautions applicable to mechanical maintenance and repair work lift stations.Ability to perform and understand basic mathematical calculations including metric as it relates to equipment repair and the usage of tools. Ability to read and understand manuals, maps, diagrams, specifications and drawings. Ability to prepare and maintain understandable, timely, complete and accurate records and reports.Ability to utilize, read and understand gauges and meters. Ability to participate in the after-hours, emergency on-call schedule.Skilled in the operation and maintenance of hand and power tools, portable pumps, portable generators, hydraulic boom truck, light and heavy trucks, motorized equipment, lawn equipment, sewage processing equipment and lift station equipmentFamiliarity with local vendors and sources of supply.Ability to establish and maintain professional, cooperative, team focused and effective relationships with team members, other agencies, other departments, leaders, and the general public. Ability to work independently to solve problems and make sound decisions with knowledge athand.Skills relating to confined spaces training including certification preferred.CPR certification preferred.Skills in welding with High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE) Pipe preferred. Skills in electrofusion preferred.

Valid Driver’s License.Technician I - Minimum one (1) year experience with lift stations.Technician II –Minimum three (3) years’ experience with lift stations. Confined Space Training or attainment within one year. CPR certified or attainment within one (1) year.HDPE pipe welding skills required.Electrofusion skills required.Technician III – Minimum five (5) years’ experience with lift stations. Confined Space Training or attainment within one (1) year. CPR certified or attainment within one (1) year.
