Sheetfed Press Helper
A sheetfed press helper assists the press operator in setting up, operating, and maintaining a sheetfed printing press by performing tasks like loading paper, changing ink, inspecting print quality, cleaning the press, and ensuring smooth production flow, while following all safety protocols and quality standards; essentially acting as a support role to the primary press operator during printing operations on a sheetfed press.
Key responsibilities may include:
- Paper handling: Loading paper stock onto the feeder, adjusting paper guides, monitoring paper feed, and removing printed sheets from the delivery
- Ink management: Mixing and changing inks on the press, adjusting ink levels and color balance as directed by the operator
- Make-ready assistance: Helping with press setup including plate mounting, blanket cleaning, and registration adjustments
- Quality control: Inspecting printed sheets for defects like misregistration, color variations, and blemishes, reporting issues to the operator
- Press maintenance: Performing basic cleaning tasks on the press, lubricating moving parts, and assisting with minor maintenance repairs.
- Waste management: Removing and properly disposing of waste paper and ink
- Safety compliance: Adhering to all safety procedures, wearing required personal protective equipment (PPE), and reporting any safety concerns.
Required skills and knowledge:
- Basic understanding of printing processes and terminology related to sheetfed presses
- Ability to read and interpret job tickets and specifications
- Good hand-eye coordination and attention to detail
- Physical ability to lift and maneuver heavy paper stacks
- Basic mechanical aptitude for troubleshooting minor press issues
Work environment:
- Manufacturing facility with printing presses, exposure to ink and cleaning chemicals, noise from machinery.
- May require working in shifts depending on production demands

Pay: $16.00 - $18.00 per hour
