Job Summary: The Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Technician I is responsible for the execution of OHS program elements in support of the company’s ISO-45001, Safety Management System (SMS). Additionally, this role will be required to maintain active communication with the OHS Manager for Operations. In addition, this person will conduct audits, inspections, incident investigations, and on-site coaching for safety protocols. The OHS Technician I will also assist in training employees, developing safety materials, and supporting continuous improvement efforts. Strong communication, problem-solving, and technical skills are essential for success in this role. This is a full-time, on-site position contributing to Panasonic’s mission of advancing sustainable energy solutions.

Essential Duties
Leadership & Collaboration
- Actively foster a workplace culture that prioritizes safety, quality, compliance, and continuous improvement through leadership, engagement, and proactive problem-solving
- Proactively identify and act on opportunities for continuous improvement
- Partner with production managers, supervisors, and frontline employees to support strategy implementation
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and resolve issues in a timely manner
- Work effectively and efficiently in both team-based and independent working environments to reduce costs and add value to the organization
- Apply OHS Technician knowledge and skills in specific areas and tasks
- Master the OHS processes and be knowledgeable using OHS equipment (ex: gas monitors, sound meters, etc.), tools, and reporting systems
- Develop knowledge of regulatory standards and good industry practices; monitor processes for regulatory compliance
- Develop the ability to create OHS programs or training materials; identify various training needs and assist in creating a thorough training / employee evaluation process
- Develop an ability to perform any other tasks that may be assigned by the OHS Manager or Senior OHS Staff
- Know the layout of the facility and be able to complete duties with supervision
- Walk various processes and environments; build relationships with employees, supervisors, and managers; become familiar with various machines, equipment, and production processes
- Conduct OHS audits and inspection processes relating to eyewash, emergency showers, 6S, and other defined areas with supervision
- Utilize various Behavior Based Programs to promote proactive solutions
- Support areas across the plant in driving the adoption of 6S practices
- Develop an ability to spot, report, and prevent incidents on site; Communicate clearly and interactively with employees and coach them
- Respond to incidents (injuries, near misses, property damages, etc.), implement containment actions, and gather information for incident investigation purposes
- Able to investigate OHS incidents with coaching and supervision
- Work toward producing OHS incident reports and additional reports in a consistent high-quality manner
- Identify corrective and preventative actions, classify them, and file them properly
- Write OHS incident reports daily, monthly, and annually
- Conduct OHS orientations and on-boarding as needed
- Coaching and advising on regulatory requirements while operating equipment
- Support proper implementation of processes and procedures to ensure compliance with industry standards, regulatory requirements, and customer specifications
- Perform additional tasks, duties, and responsibilities as assigned by OHS management
- Operate and maintain tools and equipment within functional area
- Ability to work all scheduled shift hours
- Ability to train others at same or lower level within functional area
- To ensure the health and safety in the workplace and for the protection of our employees,’ wearing PPE is a possibility and includes equipment such as a full Tyvek suit, safety shoes, gloves, safety glasses, face mask, and a full hazmat suit that includes a respirator. Respirator fit test will be required based on functional area.
Qualifications: Requirements - Required and/or Preferred
Education
- Basic/Required: High school diploma, GED or 2 years of prior experience in functional area
- Preferred: Associates of Science degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Biology, Chemistry, or related science or technical field from an accredited college or university
- Proficient in MS Office (Word, Power Point, Excel, Outlook)
- Must have working-level knowledge of the English language, including reading, writing, and speaking English
- Have solid listening and communication skills and be adaptable
- Ability to interact and create cohesion with other team members
- Must have the ability to deal with complexity and ambiguity in situations
- Must be personable and exhibit professionalism
- 1-2 year of experience in a manufacturing environment
