Job Summary: The Senior General Manager of Operations will provide strategic leadership and operational oversight for a multi-billion-dollar greenfield lithium-ion battery manufacturing facility with a workforce of 4,000 employees. This role is responsible for ensuring operational excellence, driving key performance metrics, and leading large-scale production teams to achieve safety, quality, efficiency, and cost targets.
Essential Duties
- Operational Leadership:
- Oversee end-to-end manufacturing operations, ensuring efficiency, safety, and quality across the entire production process.
- Develop and execute strategic production plans aligned with corporate objectives.
- Drive KPIs in safety, quality, output, cost, and overall equipment efficiency (OEE).
- Safety & Compliance:
- Foster a safety-first culture by implementing Behavior-Based Safety (BBS) programs and ensuring compliance with all OSHA, environmental, and regulatory standards.
- Promote sustainability initiatives and environmental responsibility in alignment with corporate ESG goals.
- Quality & Continuous Improvement:
- Implement and oversee Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and Hoshin Kanri methodologies to improve production performance.
- Ensure strict adherence to ISO, IATF, and other industry-specific quality management systems.
- Lead Autonomous & Preventive Maintenance programs, ensuring long-term equipment reliability.
- Change Management & Organizational Development:
- Lead and mentor a high-performing team, focusing on succession planning, training, and performance development.
- Drive a culture of accountability, collaboration, and operational excellence.
- Lead organizational transformation as the company scales operations, navigating the challenges of a greenfield startup.
- To ensure the health and safety in the workplace and for the protection of our employees’, wearing PPE is a possibility and includes equipment such as a full Tyvek suit, safety shoes, gloves, safety glasses, face mask, and a full hazmat suit that includes a respirator. Respirator fit test will be required based on functional area.
Qualifications
Requirements - Required and/or Preferred:
Education
- Required: Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Operations Management, or a related technical field
- Preferred: Master’s degree
- 5 years at the Director of Operations level within a high-speed, high-volume manufacturing facility.
- 10 years of leadership experience in large-scale 24/7 manufacturing operations.
- Proven success in launching or scaling greenfield manufacturing operations.
- Strong background in Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and Hoshin Planning.
- Hands-on experience with SAP or other ERP systems for production and supply chain management.
- 10 years of leadership experience in large-scale 24/7 manufacturing operations within the automotive, lithium-ion batteries, or chemical manufacturing.
- Strategic Thinking & Execution: Demonstrated ability to align operations with business objectives and drive strategic initiatives.
- Leadership & People Development: Previous experience leading large teams and fostering a culture of excellence.
- Problem-Solving & Analytical Skills: Strong expertise in data-driven decision-making and root cause analysis.
- Communication & Collaboration: Work cross-functionally and influence stakeholders at all levels.
