THE OPPORTUNITY :

Reporting to the Vice President of National Leadership Giving, the National Director, Principal & Leadership Giving is responsible for the creation and execution of a principal giving plan to support the organization's goals.  PanCAN is preparing to launch a new and exciting chapter, one that will allow us to move faster than ever toward early detection, better treatments, and new ways of supporting patients and their caregivers.  No other major cancer has a five-year survival less than 20%, and we are committed to driving our community to that milestone by 2030. This kind of progress will require big bets and bold strategies. In addition to our 2030 five-year survival goal, we have also committed to 1) raising $80M annually and 2) growing PanCAN (and pancreatic cancer) awareness in the US to 30% by 2030.

The National Director, Principal & Leadership Giving, will build and manage a portfolio of donors and prospects with the potential to make seven-figure plus gifts to support the funding pillars of research, clinical initiatives, patient services, advocacy efforts and other key priorities. The role will work closely across the Community Building and Growth department and key stakeholders to secure transformational gifts that align with PanCAN's strategic vision.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :

  • Work with the Vice President of Leadership Giving to create, build, develop and execute a cohesive principal giving strategy that leverages organizational leadership, our nationwide network of donors and volunteers, along with insights from fundraising colleagues and our research and prospect team.
  • Use fundraising knowledge and interpersonal skills to build relationships with donors, prospects, their families and advisors from all backgrounds and demographics to solicit significant gifts at the principal gift level ($1 million and above).
  • Convert prospects and leads into long-term philanthropic partners by developing and implementing personalized cultivation, solicitation and stewardship strategies for a select group of high-net worth individuals to increase engagement and commitment.
  • Build, grow and manage a portfolio of at least 75 key individual prospects, donors and family offices.
  • Schedule and complete personal visits and important contacts within the portfolio and strategically increases outreach and engagement to multi-cultural high wealth donors.
  • Develop a written donor strategy and maintain a curated relationship record for all portfolio accounts by accurately entering, tracking, analyzing and reporting on donor interactions and progress using a donor management system.
  • Contribute to the preparation and creation of funding proposals, talking points and scripts, assessments of potential support, briefings, gift agreements and stewardship reports for the portfolio. Ensure that all interested parties are involved in key efforts focused on specific prospects.
  • Work collaboratively with other departments and fundraising staff to create and coordinate creative cultivation and solicitation strategies matching the objectives of the organization and the interests of the donor or prospect where there are multiple interests.
  • Work with legal and finance to ensure execution of gift agreement and partnership strategies meet non-profit policies and the Gift Acceptance Policy. Submits exceptions to the Gift Acceptance Committee for review.
  • Cultivate relationships that build upon our pipeline of prospects and donors for the Micki Love Society, PanCAN's legacy giving program and shows expertise in deferred vehicles and the role they can play in supporting visionary gifts.
  • Travel to meet with portfolio donors and prospects and be comfortable navigating new cities. Must be able to travel to attend activities as needed, including evenings and weekends.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS :

The following are the minimum qualifications which an individual needs in order to successfully perform the duties and responsibilities of this position.

Bachelor's Degree (BA / BS) from a 4-year accredited university in business, non-profit, marketing, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education, training and practical experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities required.

  • Advanced degree is preferred.
  • Years of experience may vary based on the position, duties, and responsibilities. Preferred years of experience 6 years in individual principal and major gift philanthropy. Successful supervisory experience and front-line experience preferred.
  • Experience managing high-net-worth donors and prospect relationships with a proven record of soliciting and closing principal gifts at the seven-figure level. Experience with major gifts in a healthcare environment would be an advantage.
  • Deep, broad knowledge of philanthropic support around principal individual giving and complex gifts with the proven ability to successfully execute solicitations while ensuring mission is executed with care and compassion.
  • Proven track record of executing strategic principal giving initiatives, resulting in significant revenue growth to contribute to PanCAN's overall goal to increase the organization's annual revenue to $80M.
  • Strong discovery and problem-solving skills for uncovering opportunities and creating value propositions and proposals. Strong research, planning, analytical, and problem-solving skills, and an ability to effectively screen prospective donors from information provided by PanCAN leaders, volunteers, and the research and prospect team.
  • Strong interpersonal and motivational skills that convey trust, flexibility, and integrity with the ability to communicate effectively and concisely, both in writing and orally; listen as well as give advice; and respect the ability of others. Must communicate with authenticity and inspiration.
  • Experience working effectively and respectfully as part of a committed, integrated team including but not limited to the ability to partner closely with senior leaders across the organization, including the CEO and executive leadership.
  • SALARY RANGE : ($140-165k)   PanCAN is committed to providing fair and transparent employee pay.  Our compensation policy and practices integrate years of relative experience, skills, job duties, functions, responsibilities, education, certifications, expertise, PanCAN seniority, position / title, department, market conditions, and merit, and may also include geographic location. Our base salaries range from Entry level to Experienced and max at Expert level. The base pay range included herein is specific and germane to the job / position / opening as described within this announcement.
