Position Summary
As the Animal Control Supervisor at PAWS, you will lead and mentor our Animal Control Officers to safeguard the welfare of animals and ensure community safety. This position requires close collaboration with law enforcement agencies, other community partners, and internal veterinary staff to handle various animal control cases effectively.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise and coordinate the daily operations of Animal Control Officers, including scheduling, training, and performance evaluations.
- Oversee responses to animal control calls such as stray pick-ups, dangerous dog incidents, and cruelty investigations.
- Collaborate with law enforcement during emergencies (e.g., crime scenes, natural disasters) and ensure officers are properly deployed.
- Review and approve citations when necessary; assist in legal proceedings related to animal welfare.
- Maintain surveillance procedures and protocols to monitor potential animal abuse or neglect cases.
- Promote community education on responsible pet ownership and animal welfare issues, guiding staff in outreach efforts.
- Oversee accurate record-keeping of all animal control activities and cases; generate regular reports for management.
- Work closely with veterinary staff to ensure proper care and handling of rescued or impounded animals.
Qualifications
- Proven experience in animal control or law enforcement; supervisory or leadership background strongly preferred.
- Excellent animal handling and care skills for various species.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to drive safely under various conditions.
- Leadership skills to guide volunteers and coordinate rescue efforts effectively.
- Familiarity with local laws and regulations regarding animal welfare (preferred).
- Outstanding communication abilities for interacting with staff, the public, and partner agencies.
