What are the responsibilities and job description for the Mix Operator position at Panhandle Milling?
Our Mix Operator I is a vital member of our production team, responsible for ensuring the accuracy and efficiency of our packaging processes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Set up and monitor finished package weights to guarantee conformity to specifications.
- Configure packer scale weights prior to each run.
- Verify the precision of check scales before commencing operations.
- Regularly inspect finished package weights during runs.
- Maintain a clean and organized workspace, including disposing of waste and cardboard at the end of shifts.
- Ensure that products are bagged, sealed, and palletized in a neat and orderly manner on structurally sound pallets.
- Clean work areas, including disposal of trash and cardboard at the end of shift.
- Perform scheduled allergen cleans in the Mix Plant area, mixer, and equipment.
- Identify allergens using the company's color coding system and properly utilize color-coded utensils.
- Pull samples of product both prior to packaging and throughout the run, and conduct analysis on samples using equipment in the mill control room.
- Conduct Metal Detector checks as scheduled by the quality department and notify supervisors of any substandard conditions.
- Pull samples prior to runs to ensure conformity to specifications.
- Pull samples during runs once conformity is verified.
- For government contracts, take one sample per pallet for weight and lab testing.
- Keep bags available and ready for use, including those labeled for special customers.
- Attach labels to bags as necessary.
- Clean and sanitize packing and loading areas, including the hopper area above packers.
- Reprocess product that does not meet specifications.
- Assist in training new and existing personnel in packaging functions/positions.
- Organize, wrap, and load finished products as needed using pallet jacks or forklifts.
Qualifications and Skills:
- High school graduate or equivalent preferred.
- Familiarity with food safety rules and regulations.
- Understanding of basic principles of the BRC program and other food safety policies/procedures.
- Forklift certification a plus.
- Safety training required and provided by the company.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to multitask.
- Able to read and write in English; Spanish speaking a plus.
- Ability to work independently.
- Available to work flexible hours, evenings, and weekends may be required.
- Able to utilize computers for data entry, recipe card retrieval, and label making.
- Able to apply basic math to calculate ingredient amounts.
- Ability to maintain or exceed minimum packaging efficiencies.
Working Conditions:
- This position requires physical efforts such as straining, pulling, lifting, working, and standing/walking on concrete floors.
- Exposure to elements such as noise, dust, cold/hot temperatures.
- Extreme climate variations.
- Exposure to manufacturing equipment hazards, especially forklifts.
- Climbing ladders.
- Able to lift 50 lbs.
