What are the responsibilities and job description for the Production Operator position at Panhandle Milling?
Our Production Operator I role involves packaging finished products in bags on the 3rd shift from 11pm to 7am.
Key Responsibilities:
- Set up and monitor finished package weights to ensure bags meet specifications.
- Configure packer scale weights before each run.
- Verify check scale precision before starting a run.
- Continuously check finished package weights during the run.
- Bag, seal, and palletize finished product in a neat, clean, and organized manner on sturdy pallets.
- Pull samples of product before and during the run for analysis using equipment in the mill control room.
- Perform scheduled Metal Detector checks as set by the quality department and report any substandard conditions to the supervisor.
- Pull pre-run samples to ensure conformity to specifications.
- Take regular samples during the run, usually one per grade, once conformity is verified.
- For government contracts, take one sample per pallet for weight and lab testing.
- Ensure bags are available and ready for use, including those labeled for special customers.
- Attach labels to bags as necessary.
- Clean and sanitize packing and loading areas, including the hopper area above packers.
- Feed products that do not meet specifications back into the system for rework.
- Assist in training new and existing personnel in packaging functions and positions.
Requirements:
- On-the-job training is provided.
- Safety training is required and provided by the company in group settings and individual computer-based training.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, multitasking ability, and proficiency in reading and writing English are essential.
- Able to work independently.
- Available to work flexible hours, evenings, weekends, and shift work may be required.
Working Conditions:
- This position requires physical efforts such as straining, pulling, lifting, working, and standing and walking on concrete floors.
- Exposure to elements like noise, dust, cold and hot temperatures.
- Extreme climate or climate variation.
- Heat up to 100 degrees and low to 40 degrees.
- Temperature changes of >30 degrees within a shift.
- Exposure to manufacturing equipment hazards, especially forklifts.
- Climbing ladders.
- Able to lift up to 50 lbs.
