The Cybersecurity Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining secure systems and networks while safeguarding sensitive data and information from cyber-attacks. This position protects the organization from the ever-evolving threats of the digital landscape and ensures that the organization can operate securely and confidently in the face of increasing cyber risks.
The Cybersecurity Engineer also plans and monitors security measures to protect computer systems, networks, and data, as well as to provide additional visibility on the latest risks and threats to information security systems.
This position will report to the Chief Information Security Officer (CISO), will work with the Cyber Operations Manager, Formal Authorizations Manager, the Network Operations Center, and other business functional managers and stakeholders.
Specific Job Requirements:
* Ability to design, build, and maintain secure network architecture
* Ability to develop and implement security policies, standards, and procedures
* Ability to monitor and analyze security events and incidents
* Ability to manage security technologies and tools
* Ability to think critically and analytically to assess complex security challenges, analyze data from disparate sources, and devise innovative solutions to protect against evolving threats
* Ability to evaluate and provide input to architecture efforts that can be implemented to enhance detection, analysis, containment and response
* Ability to develop detection methods to identify potential threats and take appropriate countermeasures
* Ability to perform risk assessments and implement security controls to mitigate vulnerabilities
* Knowledge on the latest cybersecurity threats and vulnerabilities
* Knowledge of network defense tactics to include network segmentation, access controls, and intrusion detections systems
* Knowledge of security compliance standards, such as ISO 27001 and NIST frameworks
* Knowledge in cloud security and cloud-based services
* Skill in various security tools and technologies including firewalls, intrusion detection systems, antivirus software, and SIEM systems
* Skill in coordinating network, application, and data security with system administrators, network engineers, and other information technology staff members

- Bachelor's degree in engineering/science/information technology discipline: Minimum 7 years of relevant experience
- Master's degree in engineering/science/information technology discipline: Minimum 5 years of relevant experience
- PhD: Minimum 2 years relevant experience
* Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or Information Systems coupled with greater than 10 years relevant experience and progressive management responsibilities. An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
* Experience in Certified Ethical Hacking
* Familiarity with SIEM tools, next generation firewalls, and behavioral analytics
* Knowledge of Federal Cybersecurity protection standards and baselines (e.g., NIST Cybersecurity Framework, NIST SP 800-53, DoD STIGs, CNSSI 1253)
* Achievement of CISSP, CPT, CHFI, and/or CCNP certifications
* Familiarity with automated compliance scanning tools
* Strong foundation in and in-depth technical knowledge of security engineering, computer and network security, authentication, and security controls
* Familiarity with DOE & NNSA mission and cyber security requirements
