What You'll Do
The role of the Readiness Assurance Leader is multi-faceted. Readiness Assurance Leaders may lead Contractor Readiness Assessments, support project teams preparing for readiness, interface with internal and external customers, and perform Implementation Verification Reviews and Technical Safety Requirement reverifications.
In this role, you will provide independent, multi-disciplinary technical leadership to ensure that startups and restarts of a wide range of specialized operational systems, facilities and processes are accomplished in accordance with DOE ordered readiness requirements. You will also participate in and support activities of multi-disciplinary technical assessments to verify effective implementation of Technical Safety Requirements (TSRs).
In accomplishing this role, you will be responsible to:
- Apply scientific and engineering principles to performance-based assessments (readiness reviews) of formal conduct of nuclear explosive, nuclear material and hazardous non-nuclear operations;
- Resolve technical problems and make decisions and recommendations to the project team and senior management;
- Ensure that integrated planning across multiple organizations and individuals is accomplished to identify the set of tasks needed to complete readiness reviews;
- Ensure that tasks required to successfully complete readiness reviews are accomplished and can withstand the scrutiny of contractually required operational readiness verification reviews;
- Serve as Readiness Assurance team leader or team member that verifies operational readiness for the startup and restart of hazardous operations, systems and facilities.
- Perform Safety Basis Implementation Verification. Reviews to verify that the requirements, assumptions, and controls from safety basis documents (DSA and TSR) are correctly captured in the documents and are fully implemented;
- Provide expert based training on the Pantex Readiness program to project teams and prospective readiness assurance team members.;
- Research technical documentation, DOE orders, regulations and standards to identify mandatory requirements;
- Present information clearly and effectively through the oral and written word;
- Maintain schedules through discussions with customers and coordination of issues with all responsible parties for the completion of implementation and re-verification activities.

Minimum Job Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in engineering/science discipline: Minimum 4 years of relevant experience.
- Master's degree in engineering/science discipline: Minimum 3 years of relevant experience.
- PhD.
- In addition, the applicant must meet the requirements of DOE O 426.2 (Baccalaureate in engineering or related science, 2 years job-related and at least 1 year nuclear experience, or a DOE O 426.2 alternative). DOE 426.2 experience requirements can be satisfied following employment. In the interim, newly hired personnel will not be assigned duties that could impact the safety basis of nuclear facilities.
Preferred Job Requirements
- Combination of technical and operational readiness experience and skills (Readiness Assessments, Implementation Validation Reviews, and Operational Readiness Reviews) and/or in providing leadership in the attainment and validation of operational readiness for nuclear or high-hazard startup or restarts (preferably within the DOE). Other control implementation and reviews may be given credit in meeting this requirement;
- Familiarity with the requirements of 10 CFR 830, Nuclear Safety Management, and experience with implementing requirements and controls in approved DOE Documented Safety Analysis and Technical Safety Requirements (may count towards the four years’ experience required above); and
- Experience in doing both the reviews and validation of the attainment of operational readiness is highly desirable and may be given greater credit over more general and less relevant experience.

Requires a Q clearance; however all qualified candidates will be considered regardless of their current clearance status. The ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy Q clearance is required.
Position may require entry into Materials Access Areas (MAA) and participation in the Human Reliability Program (HRP). If HRP is required, candidate must complete a counterintelligence-scope polygraph, pursuant to 10 CFR 709. Medical requirements may apply.
