What You'll Do
- Responsible for subject-matter-expert duties for processes and techniques of one or more of the following scientific disciplines in support of weapon production, dismantlement and surveillance activities for the critical mission objectives: Analytical Chemistry, Physical Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry, Physical/Mechanical Materials Properties, and/or Chemical Engineering
- Responsible to perform data analysis for assigned area
- Responsible to author technical procedures for the implementation and maintenance of the work described above
- Responsible for managing laboratory testing to meet production schedules and for writing technical reports/memos describing the results of the testing
- Responsible to interact with and train laboratory technicians to perform operations to specification/procedural standards
- Responsible for maintaining day to day laboratory operations (ordering materials/supplies, tracking testing progress, directing laboratory technicians, troubleshooting, etc.)
- Coordinates with other engineers, scientists and professional personnel within the Plant and at other Company/Government locations
- Accountable for all direct output assigned and for providing direct output support to his/her manager
- Recommends new methods or procedures requiring knowledge of physical and chemical laws and may plan and conduct statistical studies
- Supports the activities of other scientific and professional personnel
- Maintains process control records, develops material sampling procedures, and provides technical guidance in specific areas of assignment
- Coordinates the accomplishment of assigned experimental or environmental projects and completion of assigned mission in a timely and efficient manner
- Responsible to interface with internal and external customers on relevant analysis, systems, and processes

Minimum Job Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in engineering or science discipline.
- Master's degree in engineering or science discipline.
DOE Order 426.2 Requirements
- In addition to the above requirements, the applicant must also meet the requirements of DOE O 426.2 (i.e., Baccalaureate in engineering or related science, 2 years job-related and at least 1 year nuclear experience, or a DOE O 426.2 alternative). DOE 426.2 experience requirements can be satisfied following employment. In the interim, newly hired personnel will not be assigned duties that could impact the safety basis of nuclear facilities. - Responsible for planning, conducting, and leading one or more laboratories that frequently involve problems requiring the application of advanced knowledge of physical and chemical laws and phenomena
- Performs duties with opportunity for exercise of initiative, independent judgment and discretion under general supervision; accountable for the results of actions taken
- Knowledge of analytical chemistry quantitative and qualitative techniques and processes such as gravimetric analysis, thermal analysis, chromatography, spectroscopy, wet chemical methods, experimental design, separations, particle size analysis, data analysis
- Knowledge of chemical hazards and proficient use of engineering controls and PPE to prevent chemical exposure
- Proficient use of word processing, spreadsheet, data query, and statistical software
- Knowledge of general chemistry to include mixing, pouring and blending materials
- Knowledge of ordering, scheduling, prioritizing, completing and routing software

Requires a Q clearance; however all qualified candidates will be considered regardless of their current clearance status. The ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy Q clearance is required.
Position may require entry into Materials Access Areas (MAA) and participation in the Human Reliability Program (HRP). If HRP is required, candidate must complete a counterintelligence-scope polygraph, pursuant to 10 CFR 709. Medical requirements may apply.
