Job Description : Overview
The Level II CEI Construction Inspector is responsible for performing inspection tasks on a wide variety of private and municipal projects including transportation, utility, pumping, stormwater, and site projects, ensuring compliance with project plans, specifications, and safety standards. With 5 to 10 years of experience, the inspector will independently manage daily inspections, oversee quality control, and coordinate with contractors and project teams. This role involves documenting construction progress, verifying materials, and ensuring adherence to project plans, specifications, municipal standards, and safety standards, as well as mentoring less experienced inspectors.
Responsibilities
What can you expect on a daily basis?
- On-Site Inspections :
Conduct detailed, daily inspections of construction activities, such as grading, paving, drainage, utility installations and ensuring compliance with project plans and specifications.
Independently verify that materials and workmanship meet quality standards and contractual requirements.
Identify and report any deviations or non-compliant work to project managers, recommending corrective actions as necessary.
Prepare and submit thorough daily work reports (DWRs) detailing work performed, progress, materials used, and any issues encountered on-site.
Take accurate measurements, field notes, and photographs to document construction activities, ensuring complete and accurate project records.
Verify and maintain accurate logs of materials testing results, ensuring compliance with specifications and standards.
Assist in reviewing and approving pay estimates and change orders, ensuring documentation supports work performed.
Communicate regularly with contractors, subcontractors, and project managers to address any on-site issues, clarifications, or changes needed during construction.
Coordinate with contractors to ensure work progresses according to the project schedule and that all milestones are met.
Attend project meetings as needed to provide updates on field inspections, progress, and any identified issues.
Mentor and provide guidance to less experienced inspectors, ensuring adherence to inspection protocols, quality standards, and safety practices.
Assist in training junior staff on inspection techniques, documentation requirements, and materials testing procedures.
Oversee on-site materials testing activities, ensuring tests are conducted in a timely manner and results meet required specifications.
Review materials testing results for soil, asphalt, concrete, and other construction materials, ensuring they align with project specifications and address any non-conformance issues with contractors.
Ensure proper documentation of all materials used on-site, including certifications and test results.
Ensure compliance with environmental regulations, including stormwater pollution prevention plans (SWPPP) and other local and state environmental requirements.
Monitor and document environmental protection measures on-site, such as erosion control and runoff management, ensuring adherence to permits and regulations.
