What are the responsibilities and job description for the Geospatial Technologist position at Pape-Dawson Engineers?
Overview
This position is responsible for utilizing the latest in geospatial technology including operation of UAS (drones), Lidar, and Aerial Photogrammetry in support of the companies Land Surveying department. The Geospatial Technologist will work in the field assisting the Lead UAS Pilot on mapping missions throughout Texas and also works in the office post-processing 3D data for a variety of deliverables. The successful candidate will work closely with our experienced pilot’s and technicians and be trained as needed.
Responsibilities
- Assist in the collection & processing of LIDAR data
- Perform classification, feature extraction, and mapping from processed LIDAR data
- Work with point cloud data collected by airborne and/or mobile methods
- Extract 2D and 3D information from the data and generate CAD mapping for delivery
Qualifications
- Associates degree in Engineering, GIS, Geography, or related field
- 0-1 years experience
- Knowledge of MicroStation, AutoCAD Civil 3D, Terrasolid, and Pix4D preferred but not required
- Strong interest in earth sciences, GIS, geography, and/or land surveying
- Ability to work in a team environment as well as independently
- Ability to effectively communicate with all levels of employees in the organization, both verbally and written.
- Ability to work in a deadline driven environment with changing priorities depending on project workload
- Must be able to work in all types of weather conditions and terrains on a consistent basis and for extended periods of time.
- Must be dependable and reliable
