The Survey Practice Leader is responsible for the strategic leadership and management of the survey department across multiple offices or regions. This position ensures the successful execution of projects, drives business development, and fosters a culture of innovation and excellence. This role provides senior-level guidance, builds client relationships, and oversees departmental operations to achieve organizational goals.
Responsibilities
- Plan, direct, and coordinate the work of the survey department, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives.
- Provide expert guidance and direction to Survey Technicians, Field Crews, and other department staff.
- Ensure compliance with state-specific regulatory rules and standards governing professional land surveying.
- Develop and review detailed project proposals, including scope, budgets, and timelines, to meet client needs.
- Oversee and manage project budgets, invoicing, and financial performance for large-scale or high-profile projects.
- Perform quality control reviews of drawings, legal descriptions, and other deliverables prepared by the department.
- Adhere to and enforce corporate QA/QC guidelines, driving continuous improvement in quality standards.
- Lead the training, mentoring, and professional development of Survey Department members at all levels.
- Identify opportunities for business development, maintain strong client relationships, and acquire new clients and projects.
- Resolve complex survey challenges, offering innovative and efficient solutions.
- Champion the adoption of advanced technologies, tools, and methodologies to enhance department capabilities.
- Represent the organization at industry events and conferences, promoting the firm's survey expertise.
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Surveying or a related field.
- Minimum of 20 years as a licensed surveyor.
- At least 10 years of previous supervisory experience, leading and mentoring diverse survey teams.
- Proven ability to prioritize tasks and make strategic decisions independently in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
- Demonstrated success in building and maintaining professional relationships with clients, stakeholders, and staff.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage team performance and resolve personnel matters effectively.
- Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to engage at all organizational levels.
- Dependable and reliable, capable of managing multiple priorities and operations simultaneously.
- Advanced problem-solving and analytical skills to address and resolve complex survey challenges.
- Visionary mindset with a focus on innovation, business development, and continuous improvement.
- Ability to work Monday - Friday, 8am - 5pm with overtime as needed.
