What are the responsibilities and job description for the Estimator and Project Manager position at Paper Moon Painting?
Do you love people?
As a salesperson, do you love the “thrill of the hunt” in closing a sale?
Are you personally interested in interior design and home improvement?
Are you organized and love overseeing and managing the transformation that happens during home improvement projects?
Then YES, we’d love to talk to you!
Paper Moon Painting is looking for an in-home sales consultant/estimator who can also oversee our painting projects from start to finish, ideally with experience in interior design or the construction trades. We’re not your average painting company! We're very relational and interior design-oriented, while still upholding the bottom line. We build long-term relationships with our customers, helping them meet their home improvement goals with the best quality painting and wallpapering solutions in the high-end residential market.
A DAY IN THE LIFE
- After starting your day at the office, you’ll be going on four or five sales consultations a day in the greater Austin area. Meeting people energizes you, and you enjoy seeing where they are in their home improvement journey and how we can help them.
- You’ll be writing up each day’s estimates and not just sending them out, but also following up with your sales calls to see if you can answer any questions and lead them to choosing Paper Moon.
- You’ll be working with our project manager, office staff, and the painters themselves to make sure everyone has a clear picture of what needs to be done on each project, and that each project is completed on time and on budget.
- And of course, you’ll be developing new relationships with referral partners such as interior designers, going to networking events, and helping find ways to make Paper Moon a known and trusted company in the community.
- About 70% of your time will be devoted to sales appointments with homeowners, with 30% of the time spent on managing our painters to ensure they deliver a great result on every painting project.

- Light pre-qualify your leads to make sure they are a good fit for Paper Moon Painting.

- Creating trust and value through excellent customer service, including attentive follow-up with every customer throughout the sales process.
- Dedicate 10% of your time on business development and networking.
- Achieve a 40% closing ratio and $1,500,000 in sales annually, after training period.

- Supervise projects internally, understanding and monitoring scopes of work, change orders, efficiency, and daily painting progress to ensure Paper Moon hits actual KPI’s. In practical terms, this means ensuring our paint crews are accomplishing what they need to each day, in order to finish each project on time and with excellent quality.
- Resolve any issues or conflicts that arise with customers and/or employees.
- Ensure that all safety regulations and protocols are strictly adhered to.
Team Hiring and Management:

WHY WOULD YOU WANT TO TAKE ON THIS CHALLENGE?
You love helping people. We at Paper Moon believe a person’s home environment is a huge factor in the whole family’s well-being, and we directly help improve that. You won’t be just an “order taker” or another uninvolved tradesman, you’ll be helping them see how we can be the best fit for their needs. We care about beautifying spaces. This is where the worlds of interior design and helping others intersect.
You want a chance to go out and “win” every day. That works best when you have a product or service you can be enthusiastic about selling, and work for a company you can be proud of, without excessive desk work to bog you down. (You still have to write up your estimates and update reports, of course! But we keep the red tape to a minimum.) You love the thrill of the hunt, and each day gives you a chance to do that.
You enjoy seeing projects through from start to finish, and managing our team of professional painters is part of that. You love seeing the physical results of your sales to homeowners, and you care about making sure our painters deliver quality results each and every day. Plus helping coach our painters toward achieving great results each day is satisfying in itself.
You don’t mind long hours or hard work if it means you get tangible results, job satisfaction, and a real sense of achievement when you go home each day.
You thrive on the responsibility of knowing that your role is critical to the business’ success, that your efforts directly affect the company as a whole. You know you matter, and you've got the reliability and maturity to do your part to make the whole enterprise succeed.
WHAT DOES “SUCCESS” LOOK LIKE IN THIS ROLE?
- Customers have a great sales experience, before, during, and after the sale (and after their project is complete), and enthusiastically recommend us to their friends and family
- You communicate clearly so that painters are given clear, understandable work orders with attainable goals, and office staff is kept in the loop
- You’re closing 40% of your qualified leads, and each project is profitable at the company’s target rates
- You’re able to track progress on our painting crews’ work each day to ensure quality work that lives up to our standards, so that our customers are thrilled with Paper Moon’s work.
- You contribute to a positive and collaborative company culture
We know you want to be rewarded for your success, so your compensation package consists of base salary plus commission, as well as use of a company vehicle, phone, and gas card. Plus we offer paid time off, paid holidays, and medical benefits.
