Program Description:

The Industrial Mechanic Technician Trainee program will combine formal and on-the-job training (OJT) to prepare individuals for advancement opportunities as an Industrial Mechanic Technician. The formal training will be completed at Metropolitan Community College (MCC) or equivalent school and curriculum. Trainees will be required to complete the Electrical Mechanical Systems Career Certificate with a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher. Duration of the program will be 1 ½-2 years.

Each Trainee will need to log their daily work and review with their assigned Maintenance Engineer monthly. Each Trainee will have formal quarterly performance review. In addition, the Trainee will have an annual performance review that is tied to the annual merit increase. The trainee must be making progress toward the completion of their Electrical Mechanical Systems Career Certificate and must be successfully performing in the role of the Industrial Mechanic Technician Trainee. Both factors will be reviewed during the formal quarterly performance review process. Failure to progress in the program would result in dismissal.

The Trainee will be required to attend a minimum of two classes per semester but no more than 9 credit hours per semester. Papillion Foods, LLC will pay the Trainee their hourly wage while in class. Mileage to and from school will be at the expense of the Trainee. Tuition and books will be paid by Papillion Foods, LLC. The Trainee will be required to refund Papillion Foods, LLC 100% of costs paid by Papillion Foods, LLC should their employment end for any reason within 3 years from the completion date of the Electrical Mechanical Systems Career Certificate. Also, the Trainee agrees to pay 100% of Papillion Foods, LLC costs for any class that they do not receive a “C” or higher. The Trainee agrees to make a onetime payment for the costs paid by Papillion Foods, LLC or agrees to authorize payroll deductions for the amount equivalent to the costs paid by Papillion Foods, LLC.

Program Completion:

To successfully complete the program the Trainee must obtain the Electrical Mechanical Systems Career Certificate and an overall “meets” expectations formal performance evaluation. Upon successful completion of the program (Certification and OJT) the Trainee will be assigned any available Industrial Mechanic Technician position (assigned by preference if multiple positions are available). If no open position exists, the Trainee will be advanced to the Industrial Mechanic Technician career level until an opening becomes available. Since a Trainee will be assigned their first role, the 6-month waiting period will be waived, in the event they wish to bid on an open job.

Program Dismissal:

A Trainee must maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.0 throughout the program. The Trainee will be placed on a Performance Improvement Plan if at any time the cumulative GPA drops below 2.0. If the cumulative GPA drops below 2.0 for two consecutive semesters the Trainee will be removed from the program. In addition, the Trainee may be placed on a Performance Improvement Plan based on job. Successful completion of the PIP will be required to remain in the Trainee position. The need for a second PIP would result in dismissal from the program.

If the Trainee has not met the requirements for successful completion of the program within 2 years of the start date, the Trainee will be removed from the program.

Upon dismissal from the program the employee will be allowed to express interest in any open position, however, awarding of the job will follow the standard process and considerations. If the employee is not able to be placed in a new position within 3 months, employment with the company may be terminated.
