Position Overview The Community Organizer will develop a small group of dedicated PLN parent leaders to listen deeply to community concerns, gather the support of allies, gain advocacy and organizing skills, and work together to transform school policies and practices. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Build a base rapport with Para Los Niños parents, alumni, and community members through PLN parent leadership programming, one-on-one relationship building, community events, workshops, and other engagement and outreach opportunities. Form a Parent Leadership Team composed of current and former PLN parents who will work together to advocate for improved policies and practices within local schools. The Leadership Team will also lead and engage the larger PLN community in social change opportunities. Develop the leadership of PLN parent leaders through ongoing support and training. Assess personal investment of leaders and potential leaders by connecting them with meaningful opportunities to use their skills and talents in service of collectively determined goals. Support parent leaders to create a network of engaged community allies who are educated on issues impacting PLN families and mobilized to offer support to PLN campaigns. Support parent leaders to develop community listening surveys to gather information about the issues most impacting our community. Assess and create strategic plans for PLN organizing campaigns, focusing on parent- and community-determined goals. Support parent leaders to determine targets, tactics, winnable outcomes, and outreach plans. Collaborate with other PLN Community Organizer to integrate campaign and leadership development work into current PLN parent empowerment programming Leadership Programs Represent PLN within relevant community coalitions and networks addressing social justice and other interconnected issues impacting PLN families, such as workers’ rights, tenants’ rights, immigrants’ rights, and healthcare. Run parent-led direct actions to support Leadership Team organizing goals. Stay aware and updated on policy issues impacting PLN families and create meaningful ways for PLN parents to engage and respond. Support PLN civic engagement work such as voter participation by working with PLN community allies. Track program participation and information, with assurance of complete confidentiality for all PLN families. Communicate with the Program Manager regarding program needs, issues, developments and any additional support needed to complete program goals. Develop and maintain communications and social media plan to support Leadership Team, community events, and organizing campaigns as they develop. Support PLN programs and special events, including fundraising, funding reports, and information for grant writing. Qualifications At least five years of community organizing experience, especially in the Latinx community and in South King County. 100% bilingual in both English and Spanish : writing, reading, and speaking. Bachelor's Degree Equivalent experience will be considered. Possess strong communication skills and have experience in public speaking, especially with a wide diversity of audiences, in both Spanish and English. Must be good at authentic and open relationship building with Latinx families and community allies. Highly motivated, team player with innovative and creative thinking. Strong social justice analysis and understanding of the power of community organizing to transform lives and communities. Strong organizational skills. Knowledge of policy issues impacting Latino communities preferred, especially those within schools. Self-starter with a strong desire to learn. Technology skills and experience in computer programs such as Google Docs, Microsoft Excel, etc. Lift 25 / 50 / 80 pounds regularly Time Commitment Weekly schedule is Monday through Friday, but hours can vary Willingness to adjust hours to accommodate the needs of the job Some nights and weekends Must be available for special events and training Please submit a Cover Letter and Resume to adminplnwa.org
