Civil Engineering Designer/Technician


A challenging and rewarding opportunity for an experienced civil engineering designer/technician to be part of a project team delivering land development and infrastructure projects around the United States.


Position Overview


We are looking for a civil engineering designer/technician to join our team to assist in the planning, design, entitlement and construction of various projects. This role involves working closely with project managers and engineers and other professionals to create detailed plans and drawings using computer-aided design (CAD) software. This role also offers the flexibility to work from our Grand Rapids office, Scottsdale office, remotely or in a hybrid model combining both.


Responsibilities

  • Assist in the preparation of engineering drawings, plans and specifications for various civil engineering projects, including site development, transportation and utilities.
  • Utilize computer-aided design (CAD) software (e.g., AutoCAD, Civil 3D) to create detailed drawings and models based on project requirements and standards.
  • Collaborate with engineers and project managers to develop design concepts, layouts and construction details that meet project objectives and regulatory requirements.
  • Gather surveys, topographic data, utility locations, local jurisdictional requirements and codes as well as zoning requirements and other relevant information for project planning and design.
  • Analyze survey data and aerial imagery to assess site conditions, identify constraints, and develop design solutions that optimize land use and infrastructure layout.
  • Assist in the preparation of technical reports, calculations and design memoranda to support project planning, permitting and regulatory compliance.
  • Review and interpret engineering plans, specifications and standards to ensure accuracy, completeness and compliance with project requirements.
  • Maintain organized project files and documentation, including drawings, correspondence, and design revisions to facilitate efficient project management and communication.

  • Coordinate with internal teams, external consultants and regulatory agencies to obtain necessary approvals and permits for project implementation.
  • Communicate effectively with project stakeholders, including clients, contractors and suppliers, to clarify design requirements, address inquiries and resolve technical issues.
  • Participate in project meetings, design reviews and construction site visits as needed to support project progress and ensure quality control.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree or diploma in civil engineering technology or related field; bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • At least 5 years of experience in the civil engineering field, preferably in the land development sector.
  • Proficient in using AutoCAD and Civil 3D.
  • Proven track record of successfully delivering complex and large-scale projects within scope, budget, and schedule.
  • Strong technical knowledge of civil engineering principals, practices, and standards, including site grading, drainage and utility design.
  • Detail-oriented approach to work, with a focus on accuracy, efficiency and continuous improvement.
  • Excellent organizational, communication and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
