JOB SUMMARY
We are seeking an experienced Senior Unix / Linux Engineer to join our team in Houston, TX. This role is focused on the maintenance, administration, and support of Unix / Linux systems in a hybrid cloud and on-premises environment. The successful candidate will handle day-to-day operations, ensuring optimal performance, security, and reliability across Oracle Linux and related infrastructure. Strong familiarity with AWS is highly preferred, as the role will involve cloud infrastructure management and support.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Perform routine system administration tasks, including patching , monitoring , and troubleshooting for Unix / Linux environments.
- Manage virtual machines , configure LDAP , and oversee system-level updates to ensure operational continuity.
- Provide support for Oracle Linux environments , including both on-premises hardware and cloud infrastructure (Oracle Cloud Infrastructure and Exadata).
- Maintain and optimize AWS infrastructure , including EC2 instances, EFS / EBS, Lambda Functions, and DataSync.
- Collaborate with teams to monitor and maintain system performance, ensuring availability and reliability of services.
- Execute maintenance tasks for Oracle RAC , ASM , and other critical components.
- Administer host-based firewalls , system security settings , and perform regular health checks on infrastructure components.
- Assist with capacity planning and optimization to maintain system scalability and efficiency.
- Develop and maintain scripts in shell , Python , Perl , and other languages to automate operational tasks.
- Utilize tools such as Ansible , Splunk , SolarWinds , and OEM for system monitoring and troubleshooting.
- Provide expertise in managing cloud services, including :
- OCI management : VMCluster, Instances, Security Zones, Cloudguard, DataSafe.
- AWS management (strongly preferred) : EC2, EFS / EBS, Lambda Functions, DataSync.
