We are currently looking to fill the position of Additive Manufacturing Technician with a starting range of $56,000K - 70,000K/year, dependent upon experience, education, and skills. This position requires a full-time onsite presence.
The Additive Manufacturing Technician will be responsible for the setup, operation, and preventive maintenance of SLS Additive Manufacturing (AM) machines, processing equipment, and processes within an ISO 13485 manufacturing environment. This role involves manufacturing, inspecting, and qualifying 3D-printed parts at Paragon 28. Responsibilities include file receipt, build preparation, scheduling, part finishing, and inspection of medical devices. The Additive Manufacturing Technician will also conduct regular maintenance on the production process and support new product qualifications with engineering. Additionally, this role will require documentation support to maintain the lab, ensuring proper record-keeping for new incoming products and changes to processes. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented, hardworking individual with a strong desire to learn and grow within the field of Additive Manufacturing in an ISO13485 Environment. The ideal candidate is not only comfortable with hands-on technical work but is also proactive in contributing to process documentation and supporting internal quality systems. Attention to detail, the ability to complete tasks with minimal supervision, and good documentation practices are essential attributes for this position.
Key Responsibilities
- Set up, operate, and maintain additive manufacturing (AM) machines and post-processing equipment.
- Monitor and record operational information, including functional issues, material consumption rates, and build completion dates.
- Follow work orders, procedures, specifications, and test instructions.
- Utilize various quality control gauges and measurement tools to inspect and measure parts.
- Review work instructions for additional information and special requirements.
- Ensure compliance with all Quality Management Systems, including adherence to good documentation practices (GDP).
- Assist with creating, reviewing, and maintaining process documentation in compliance with ISO 13485 and internal Quality Management System (QMS) requirements.
- Support validation activities, including test method validation and process qualification documentation.
- Identify and troubleshoot machine and manufacturing issues.
- Maintain thorough and accurate records of manufacturing activities.
- Contribute to process improvements by identifying inefficiencies and proposing solutions in collaboration with engineering and quality teams.
- Perform other assigned duties as required.

This role is situated within an ISO13485 manufacturing environment.
Physical Demands
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working with their hands and engaging in both technical and process-driven tasks. From operating machinery to ensuring quality and compliance, this position offers a dynamic mix of physical and analytical responsibilities.
During this role, the employee will regularly work with their hands to transform raw 3D-printed materials into finished parts. This will involve operating machinery such as bead-blasters, dust collectors, and other finishing equipment. Proficiency with hand tools, including drills, and inspection equipment, such as pin gauges, is required. The employee will interact with both internal and external individuals and will frequently move around the facility. There may be instances where the employee needs to lift weights of up to 50 lbs. independently. The role requires extended periods of sitting, standing, walking (often for 8 hours or more), bending, stooping, squatting, and balancing.
Qualifications
- Currently pursuing or completed an Associate degree in engineering sciences or a related technical discipline. (Availability during standard on-site working hours in the lab is required).
- Strong time management, prioritization skills, and attention to detail.
- Basic understanding of Additive Manufacturing technologies.
- Proficiency with manufacturing equipment and quality inspection tools.
- Ability to work independently and complete tasks with minimal supervision.
- Experience with basic shop tools and hand tools.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Excel, and Word.
- Basic computer skills required, including the ability to download files, organize files, and upload documents to SharePoint or similar platforms.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to adapt to evolving manufacturing and quality requirements.
- Ability to take initiative and seek guidance when needed to ensure manufacturing and documentation processes meet compliance standards.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in an ISO 13485-regulated environment.
- Familiarity with Additive Manufacturing processes and process parameter development.
- Experience using slicer software for Additive Manufacturing.
- Capability to manipulate files and parts using CAD/CAM software.
- Experience operating additive manufacturing equipment.
- Experience in mechanical testing, such as tensile testing, to evaluate material properties and performance.
- Experience in writing validations, including test method validations and related documentation.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
