Overview

The Director of Human Resources, a fully on-site role , will play a pivotal role in shaping and executing HR strategy for a growing gene therapy biotech company entering its critical Phase 3 trial. This individual will be responsible for leading all HR functions, including talent acquisition, organizational development, employee engagement, performance management, compensation and benefits, and compliance. The Director will collaborate closely with the executive team to drive a culture of innovation, agility, and inclusivity while ensuring that HR practices are aligned with the company's strategic objectives. The ideal candidate will have experience working in a portfolio company environment, bringing an ability to navigate the complexities and growth challenges typical of a dynamic, fast-paced biotech setting. This leadership role will be instrumental in building a strong, high-performing workforce capable of supporting the company’s ambitious growth and scientific milestones.

Responsibilities :

HR Strategy and Leadership

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive HR strategy aligned with Castle Creek’s goals.
  • Ongoing assessment of the state of the organization’s workforce and structure and identify areas for improvement.
  • Partner with senior management to set near- and long-term HR initiatives aligned with business objectives, creating a roadmap for achieving them.

Talent Acquisition, Development and Management

  • Oversee recruitment and talent acquisition efforts to attract top talent.
  • Develop and implement strategies for talent retention, succession planning and career development.
  • Establish role progression and career mapping plans for all employees.
  • Employee Relations

  • Address and resolve complex employee relations issues.
  • Develop and enforce HR policies and procedures in compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Develop and implement strategies to enhance employee engagement and satisfaction.
  • Promote a positive, results-oriented, and inclusive work culture.
  • Compensation and Benefits

  • Manage compensation and benefits programs, ensuring total compensation is competitive, equitable and fair.
  • Collaborate with Finance to create and manage HR budgets.
  • Performance Management

  • Oversee performance management processes, including goal setting, feedback and performance evaluations.
  • Promote a culture of open communication and feedback.
  • Implement and oversee employee development programs, coaching and leadership training efforts.
  • Promote a positive, results-oriented, and inclusive work culture.
  • Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with federal, state and local employment laws and regulations.
  • Stay up to date on changes in labor laws and industry best practices.
  • Payroll

  • Oversee the accurate and timely processing of payroll, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations while managing payroll system and software in ADP Workforce Now.
  • Ensure error-free processing of and updates to employee payroll data, including deductions, benefits, and bonuses, to maintain precise compensation records.
  • Qualifications :

  • Master’s degree in human resources or a related field preferred.
  • 10 years of HR leadership experience.
  • Proven ability to manage HR functions in biotech and life sciences industries. Early-stage development and / or drug discovery experience is a plus.
  • Experience in a portfolio company strongly preferred.
  • HR certification (e.g., SHRM CP or SCP, SPHR) is a plus.
  • Experience with ADP Workforce Now is a plus.
  • Deep understanding of HR best practices and their application in diverse environments.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and collaboration skills.
  • Proven ability to lead and develop high-performing teams.
  • Hands-on leader with a track record of driving HR initiatives that support business objectives.
