Job Description:
Senior Level Civil Engineer/Premises Liability Consultant
This role will lead the consultation process on forensic cases related to personal injury lawsuits or claims. The primary responsibilities include case management, review and analysis of file material, performance of inspections, and collaboration with support staff. The Civil Engineer/Premises Liability Consultant will evaluate conditions of property that allegedly cause or contribute to injurious events and/or property damage. Additionally, this position may involve addressing questions regarding construction and building-related practices and safety.
This position requires expertise in providing testimony through depositions, arbitration, and trials, as well as writing reports and declarations. As a lead consultant, you will have the opportunity to work on various cases and provide expert opinions to support our clients' claims.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead consultant on cases and manage casework effectively
- Collaborate with Paragon personnel on review and analysis of cases
- Research and review of property records, codes, regulations, and standards
- Review of case-related materials such as depositions, statements, photographs, reports, etc.
- Perform site inspections, taking photographs and measurements, and using technical instruments
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or higher
- Licensed Professional Engineer in the state of employment
- 5 years' experience in forensics
- Ability to handle high case loads and short deadlines
- Effective time management and support staff coordination
- Experience with property records research, including plan review
- Understanding of concrete construction and other building materials
- Strong reading comprehension and written and verbal communication skills
- Competency in using basic tools and equipment, PC proficiency in Microsoft Office, and local and regional travel
Preferred Qualifications:
- 10 years' experience in forensics
- Prior experience working in building and safety (municipal jurisdictional building department, OSHA, construction consulting firm, etc.)
- Prior experience and/or knowledge of building codes and regulations
- Familiarity with construction and maintenance of various materials, including concrete and asphalt
- Familiarity with building codes, regulations, and standards associated with construction practices and safety
Paragon Forensics offers a competitive salary range of $100,000 to $300,000 annually, commensurate with experience, paid monthly.
