Metal Saw Operator

Description

Key Responsibilities:

• Saw Operation: Set up and operate metal saws, including band saws, or abrasive saws, to cut metal pieces to specified dimensions.
• Material Preparation: Read blueprints, work orders, or drawings to determine cutting requirements. Measure and mark materials for cutting.
• Quality Control: Inspect finished cuts for accuracy, ensuring they meet tolerance and quality standards.
• Equipment Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance on saws, including blade changes and lubrication, to ensure proper operation.
• Safety Compliance: Follow all workplace safety procedures, including wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) and maintaining a clean work area.
• Inventory Management: Keep track of materials used and report any shortages or defects.
• Collaboration: Work closely with production teams to ensure efficient workflow and timely completion of orders.

Work Environment:

• Manufacturing or workshop setting with exposure to noise, dust, and metal shavings.
• Requires wearing safety gear such as gloves, goggles, and steel-toe boots.
• May involve lifting heavy materials and standing for extended periods.

Qualifications

Qualifications and Skills:

• Experience operating metal saws in a manufacturing or fabrication environment preferred.
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and blueprints.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
• Basic math and measurement skills.
• Physical stamina to stand for long periods and handle heavy materials.
• Understanding of workplace safety protocols.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Education and Experience:

• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• Previous experience in a metal fabrication or machine shop setting is a plus.
• Training or certification in machine operation is beneficial.
