Job Summary
The Engineering Director will lead a high-performing team of engineers, construction professionals, consulting and other client-facing resources that aligns with the business objectives and growth initiatives. Specifically, this position will assign resources to projects by understanding scope, budget, and schedule to ensure : qualified resources are leveraged; level loading of resources; utilization targets are achieved; development opportunities are leveraged; project workflows are created among other facets. This position will also supervise the daily activities of this team ensuring that client commitments and internal deliverables are met.
Essential Functions
Project Management & Execution Oversight
- Provides overall leadership to engineers, construction professionals, consulting and other client-facing resources ensuring a culture of excellence, company standards, policies and industry best practices are met.
- Understands project details to ensure on-scope, on-time and on-budget successful completion of projects.
- Employs robust change order process to provide timely client deliverables while also reducing project risk and overruns.
- Owns & delivers continuous improvement processes to drive engineering quality.
- Creates safety and quality programs for all projects ensuring compliance with established policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
Team Development & Organizational Accountability
Builds / manages engineering team ensuring individual development plans are metWorks with HR to identify / hire qualified staff to expand the company’s capability.Coaches team to have positive impact on projects while promoting collaboration.Builds team effectiveness through the performance management cycle, inspiring employees to achieve both individual and organizational goals.Participates in staffing decisions for proposals and projects, collaborating with HR / recruitment to hire the necessary talent to support project needs.Organizes and prioritizes work to meet deadlines set by others, ensuring efficient project execution.Client Relationship & Business Development
Builds and maintains strong relationships with clients, represents the company in client-facing interactions, and ensures the company’s position as a trusted partner.Negotiates with customers to set priorities, negotiate contracts, and solidify relationships.Acts as a seller-doer where client relationships are required.Participates in marketing, sales, and new solution initiatives to identify growth opportunities and support business development efforts.Works with sales / marketing teams to create a vision, business plan, and strategies.Strategic Leadership
Develops business plans to achieve functional or cross-functional objectives while ensuring proper resource allocation to meet project goals.Provides technical structure to teams and work closely with management to define strategic roadmaps.Implements multi-year engineering function strategy to achieve employee development, business growth and other initiatives.Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Engineering (prefer Civil, Architectural, Industrial); MBA preferred.5 years of leadership experience leading a technical team.Excellent problem-solving, communication, and project management skills.Deep knowledge of engineering principles and practices.Excellent verbal and written communication skills.Proven cross-functional collaboration for planning, execution, strategic & financial.Strong understanding of work site health & safety complianceLocation
