The Finance Manager’s role is to develop and implement financial strategies, policies, and plans that align with the company's goals and objectives. Specifically, this position is responsible for all financial related activities including but not limited to : financial planning, processes, forecasting, reporting, dashboards, expenses, payables, receivables, budgeting, KPIs, etc. While leading a small team, the Finance Manager will ensure all accounting and finance are clearly understood and comply with GAAP.
Essential Functions
Financial Planning
- Drives the financial planning of the company by analyzing its performance and risks.
- Provides regular updates to owners on the company’s financial position.
- Can recommend strategic course-correction given current / historical data
Budgeting & Forecasting
Establishes budgets for each dept on an annual basis… monthly reporting.Retains constant awareness of the company’s financial position.Creates forecast models / tools for short-term / long-term planningRisk Management & Compliance
Oversees financial audit and internal financial controls.Provides recommendations to reduce the company’s financial risk.Complies with all GAAP and financial reporting laws and guidelines.Financial Reporting & Analysis
Creates financial dashboards to ensure visibility of the company’s financial health.Prepares timely and detailed reports on financial performance on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis.Can create ad-hoc reportsCash Flow Management
Identifies opportunities for cost reduction and efficiency improvements.Maintains PO process to ensure approved purchases are made.Measures and exceeds AR goals… leverages best practice collections techniques and follows up on aged accounts including escalating as needed.Verifies Accounts Payable is approved before payment.Oversees the payroll processReviews incoming invoices for accuracy and paymentBusiness Growth & Innovation
Manages relationship with bank, third party auditors, and other associated groups.Can communicate financial wellness to staff in a non-technical manner.Occasionally meets with clients as needed.Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance (Master’s Degree or MBA preferred)5 years of experience in financial leadership for an organizationCertified Public Accountant (CPA) or Certified Management Accountant (CMA) preferredExperience in professional services billable industries a plusExperience in AEC (Architecture, Engineering, Construction) a plusHigh attention to detailStrong written and verbal communication skillsAbility to multi-task and meet tight deadlinesLocation
