The Instrumentation Engineer (IE) will be responsible for identifying and implementing a state-of-the-art instrumentation suite that enables effective monitoring and control of the HTF facility. This includes providing expert guidance on selecting the appropriate sensors, data acquisition systems, and diagnostic tools necessary for safe and efficient facility operation.
Additionally, the IE will mentor and lead a team of students, providing hands-on experience in developing and executing the instrumentation plan while fostering the next generation of engineering talent. This position is a part-time working a couple hours a week and getting paid hourly.
In addition to that, a typical day-in-the-life of a Parallax HTF Instrumentation Engineer includes:
- Develop and execute strategic plans for resource management, utilizing appropriate methodologies and processes to ensure projects are completed on time, within scope, budget, and quality standards.
- Maintain an unwavering commitment to quality, compliance, and data-driven program evaluation to optimize facility performance.
- Assess and define the optimal suite of instrumentation required to accurately measure and characterize the hypersonic flow conditions delivered by the facility to the test article.
- Identify critical flow parameters, (such as pressure, temperature, flow uniformity, angularity, and species composition) to ensure precise characterization of facility operations.
- Determine the most effective measurement techniques for key parameters to accurately establish aerodynamic test conditions.
- Provide technical expertise in HTF facility operations, collaborating closely with CFD Model-Based Systems Engineers and mentoring students in facility system assessment and modeling initiatives.
Ideally, you are looking for your next long-term challenge and have these skills:
- Bachelors Degrees in Engineering with a minimum 20 years of experience leading and developing state of the art advanced instrumentation systems
- Minimum 15 years of program management experience leading and developing collaborations, and team building, working with academia, industry and the government.
- Demonstrated expertise in in large wind tunnels instrumentation and controls including the NASA GRC HTF.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; a persuasive and passionate communicator with excellent interpersonal and multidisciplinary project skills.
