Job Title: Assistant Controller
Reports To: CFO and Corporate Controller
Position Overview: The Assistant Controller as an experienced accountant and finance professional who is responsible for overseeing financial management tasks such as budgeting, compliance and financial reporting. Reporting directly to the Corporate Controller and indirectly to the Chief Financial Officer, you will be responsible for analyzing, organizing, preparing, reconciling, reporting, and reviewing accounting and financial data with due care and diligence to produce reliable and accurate financial information for both Internal and External users. In addition, you will assist in the performance of Chapter internal audits, grant management and filling in for the Accounting Manager role as needed.

Job Title: Assistant Controller

Position Overview: The Assistant Controller as an experienced accountant and finance professional who is responsible for overseeing financial management tasks such as budgeting, compliance and financial reporting. Reporting directly to the Corporate Controller and indirectly to the Chief Financial Officer, you will be responsible for analyzing, organizing, preparing, reconciling, reporting, and reviewing accounting and financial data with due care and diligence to produce reliable and accurate financial information for both Internal and External users. In addition, you will assist in the performance of Chapter internal audits, grant management and filling in for the Accounting Manager role as needed.
Position Responsibilities And Duties
- Assists in the preparation, management, and monitoring of the annual budget in Martus Solutions and supplemental reports.
- Responsible for preparation of Financial Statements on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis for PVA, Research & Education foundations. Analyze variances prepare ad hoc financial reports answering questions from the CFO & Controller after review. Prepare and distribute program/department monthly finance reports.
- Responsible for the set up for distribution of Program Financials in Martus Solutions and facilitate making changes as necessary.
- Oversee the day-to-day operations of the Accounts Receivable and payroll functions. Manage/lead one senior accountant and one staff accountant.
- Review payroll on a bi-weekly basis before submission.
- Prepare Financial Analytics, Cash Flow, Financial projections, and other financial metrics on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis.
- Oversee Grant Management including review and approval of restricted funds.
- Prepares Restricted net asset schedule and other required schedules and reconciliations for the annual audit and calendar year end.
- Administrator for Martus Solutions.
- Liaison for Chapters including assisting CFO in chapter audit visits and providing accounting support as needed to the Chapter staff.
- Assist in the preparation of tax returns and various payroll compliance reports.
- Prepare schedules related to the preparation of PVA and the Research and Education Foundation Tax form 990 for the Auditor’s review.
- Oversees the 401K audit.
- Performs the key functions of the Accounting Manager as needed.
- Develop various financial policies and procedures. Make recommendations for operational improvements.
- Performs additional tasks and undertakes specific projects as assigned to support the Finance Department.
- Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance.
- A minimum of five years of related experience in the nonprofit sector.
- Proficient in MS Office Suite
- Sage Intacct accounting software, is required.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Strong financial analysis and projection skills.
- Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
- Five years of supervisory experience.
- Strong Knowledge of general financial management and Nonprofit Accounting
- Proficient with spreadsheet and database software.
- Ability to act independently with minimal daily direction.
- Ability to meet assigned deadlines and prioritize work.
- Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with all levels of employees & management.
