Job Description:
The State University of New York (SUNY) is seeking an experienced User Interface (UI) Designer to support the Unified Student Information Management (SIM) System project and other student system initiatives. This role focuses on creating visually appealing, intuitive, and user-friendly interfaces to enhance the overall student experience across SUNY campuses.
The UI Designer will collaborate closely with project managers, UX designers, developers, educational stakeholders, and external vendors to develop and implement user-centric design solutions that support SUNY’s strategic digital transformation initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design user interfaces for student systems, ensuring alignment with SUNY’s branding guidelines and usability best practices.
- Develop wireframes, high-fidelity mockups, and interactive prototypes to effectively communicate design concepts.
- Collaborate with product managers, UX designers, and developers to ensure seamless integration of design into development.
- Incorporate feedback from user research and usability testing into design iterations.
- Ensure all designs meet accessibility standards and provide an inclusive user experience.
- Advise project leadership on user interface best practices, tools, and strategies to enhance user experience.
- Participate in design reviews and provide constructive feedback to team members.
- Facilitate collaboration across various departments, SUNY campuses, and external vendors to align design efforts with project goals.
Required Qualifications:
- Significant UI design experience, ideally with higher education, government, or corporate application development projects.
- Strong experience providing strategic advice to senior management on UI/UX best practices and business/functional matters.
- Expertise in improving business processes and systems through user-centered design principles.
- Proficiency in using design and prototyping tools (e.g., Figma, Adobe XD, Sketch).
- Demonstrated ability to leverage data analytics and user insights to drive design decisions.
- Strong knowledge of responsive design, accessibility standards (WCAG), and usability testing methods.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with student information systems or student-facing digital platforms.
- Familiarity with digital transformation projects in higher education environments.
- Experience working with cross-functional teams, including developers, project managers, and end-users.
