Director of Environmental Services
SALARY: $60,000-$65,000
BENEFITS:
The Director of Environmental Services performs supervisory work in managing the housekeeping/laundry department. The work requires considerable familiarity with housekeeping/laundry equipment, and the use of cleaning supplies, solving operational problems, diagnosing cause of malfunctioning equipment, and planning and laying out work. The employee performs the work of the employees on a relief basis. The Director of Environmental Services supervises a variety of activities in housekeeping and laundry in maintaining the facility in an orderly, clean, and sanitary condition and in processing linens, garments, and other washables through washing and drying cycles.
RESPONSIBILITIES/ACCOUNTABILITIES:
1 Plans, develops, organizes, implements, evaluates and directs the programs and activities of the Housekeeping and Laundry Departments;
2 Schedules work to be performed and regulates flow through various processes, such as calls in replacements, and handles any disciplinary actions necessary in the departments;
3 Reviews and evaluates the work performance of assigned personnel as well as counsel/discipline assigned personnel according to established facility policies;
4 Participates in and plans in-service programs, as necessary;
5 Attends Department Head Meetings and sits on required committees;
6 Orders and requisitions supplies through the Administration;
7 Assumes responsibility for budget planning and cost control of Housekeeping and Laundry departments;
8 Orients new employees;
9 Maintains required records, as outlined in the policies and procedures;
10 Assumes other positions/assists staff should a staffing shortage occur;
11 Concerns his/herself with the safety of all facility residents in order to minimize the potential for fire and accidents. Also, ensures that the facility adheres to the legal, safety, health, fire and sanitation codes by being familiar with his/her role in carrying out the facility’s fire, safety and disaster plans and by being familiar with current MSDS;
12 Ensures that residents and families receive the highest quality of service in a caring and compassionate atmosphere which recognizes the individuals’ needs and rights;
13 Performs other duties as requested.
SPECIFIC EDUCATIONAL/VOCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
1 High school degree or equivalent, as well as supervisory experience and experience in housekeeping/laundry.
JOB SKILLS:
1 Good organizational skills.
2 Knowledge of budget preparation.
3 Strong verbal and written communication and computer skills.
4 Agile and in good physical health.
5 Positively interact with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel and the general public.

2 Carries out other tasks as requested in situations where hands-on intervention/participation may be required.
