Starting pay confirmation Non CDL holder is 17.00 for training, 17.50 after training complete, $250.00 hiring bonus after training & 250.00 after 6 month. CDL holder, 17.50 start & hiring bonus of $500.00 after initial training and $500.00 after 6 months.
Driver Standards:
Employment as a Driver for Paratransit Services is only considered after careful screening of the potential applicant. Safe driving skills and customer service skills are part of the elements Paratransit Services values highly when considering applicants for hire. All minimum qualifications must be met to be considered for employment.
Employment Screening:
- Ten (10) year Criminal Background Check
- Minimum of three (3) year Department of Motor Vehicle Record Check depending on specific state guidelines.
- Reference Check
- Pre-employment drug screening
- Drivers age 65 and older will be subject to annual screening and skills testing.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Minimum of 21 years of age and have had a valid driver license for a minimum of five (5) years
- Current State Driver’s License and Social Security Card or approved I-9 type identification.
- Department of Transportation Medical Card, if a current CDL holder or ability to pass a DOT physical
- Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with Passenger Endorsement or the ability to obtain a CDL upon completion of Paratransit Services Driver Training Program within 6 months or less.
- Ability to operate safely, a variety of vehicle styles, which may include: Busses, Shuttles, Vans and Sedans.
Applicant Employment Disqualifications:
- Felony Conviction during any time period.
- Sexual abuse of a minor and/or sexual assault in any degree during any time period.
- Unlawful exploitation of a minor during any time period.
- Contributing to the delinquency of a minor during any time period.
- Conviction involving distribution of a controlled substance during any time period.
- Conviction of a Class A, B or C misdemeanor involving “Offenses against Persons” within the past ten (10) years.
- Conviction of a Class A, B or C misdemeanor in all other classifications within the past five (5) years.
- Conviction of “Driving Under the Influence” (DUI) within the past ten (10) years or more than one DUI during any period of time.
- Conviction of “Driving While Intoxicated” (DWI) within the past ten (10) years or more than one DWI during any period of time.
- More than one (1) moving violation in the last three (3) years or more than one (1) at fault accident in the last three (3) years or a combination of both
- Excessive speed or reckless driving conviction
- Misrepresentation on any part of the Paratransit Services employment application form will be grounds for dismissal.

DRIVER RESPONSIBILITIES:
Operates small and large transit vehicles to ensure safe and timely transportation of passengers in a professional and courteous manner.
DUTIES:
1. Operates company vehicles to transport passengers on fixed route, demand/response or door-to-door service.
2. Assists dispatcher with routes and narratives.
3. Assists elderly passengers and persons with disabilities as required by the Americans with Disabilities Act, including the loading/unloading and securement of wheelchairs within established safety procedures. Physically evacuates passengers in any emergency situations.
4. Promotes positive passenger relations; greets passengers in a tactful, courteous manner.
5. Maintains appropriate uniform and presents a professional, neat and clean appearance.
6. Communicates access and/or loading problems to supervisors.
7. Inspects assigned vehicle before and after operations; makes notes of any defects discovered. Completes vehicle condition reports.
8. Completes passenger and vehicle usage records.
9. Keeps vehicle interior clean.
10. Prepares and submits Incident/Accident reports.
11. Responsible for keeping updated on all company policies and procedures, and all training requirements.
12. Perform other duties as required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Flexible hours of work may be required, which can include evenings and/or weekends. Requires ability to push, pull and lift up to 50 lbs. Must possess the physical ability to perform all driving functions without assistance. Moderate lifting, bending, twisting, stretching, kneeling, and crouching may be required to assist passengers in boarding and exiting the vehicle, including carrying items and lifting and securing wheelchairs weighing up to 50lbs. Must be able to load/unload and push/pull occupied wheelchairs without assistance. While driving, may experience challenges related to adverse weather conditions or vehicular traffic. Must be able to grasp, squeeze, kneel, reach, and stretch to do pre/post check of vehicles, adjust mirrors, secure wheelchairs, and operate the vehicle, radio and equipment. Must be able to lift and install tire chains on all vehicles as needed. Task to include kneeling, lifting the chains (up to 50 pounds), and positioning from a kneeling position with arms extended bearing the weight of the chains. Must be able to operate small to large vans and buses safely, and perform all of
the above, without assistance.
KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of basic customer relations techniques; the service area; the safe operations of vehicles and the applicable State Motor Vehicle Laws. Ability to: work with elderly and persons with disabilities, and deal tactfully and effectively with individuals of varying backgrounds in stressful situations; to promote good passenger relations; to prepare accurate records and reports; to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; to read and apply written rules, regulations, policies and procedures; to pass required drug and alcohol testing.
