JOB DESCRIPTION
FSLE: NonExempt
POSITION OBJECTIVE
The Respite Care Worker will provide a safe, nurturing supervision of children who have disabilities and their siblings on a scheduled basis.
REPORTS TO THE PROGRAM DIRECTOR
AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:
- Ensure the safety and well-being of the individual client and sibling(s)
- Provide routine care to child (client) with disabilities and sibling(s) which includes feeding, toileting, and dressing.
- Follow the daily routine of the client as reported by the family
- Initiate, motivate, and supervise activities with the clients and sibling(s)
- Maintain the home in a safe and orderly manner
- Respect confidential information of all families served
- Be prompt to all assignments
- Keep the primary caregiver informed of the activities, issues and care provided
- Report problems, if any, that may have occurred during the assignment to the immediate supervisor
- Participate in mandatory staff meetings and other agency meetings or trainings as required by supervisor
- Complete program paperwork necessary for reporting, payroll, and other requirements as assigned by supervisor
QUALIFIACTIONS:
- Eligible for employment under State of Florida Statutes 393,394,397,402, 409
- Clear fingerprint check, local, state and federal background checks
- Comply with agency’s drug-free workplace policy
- Age18 years old or older
- Reliable transportation to and from work sites
- Communicate effectively both orally and in writing
EDUCATION:
- Minimum High school diploma or equivalent
- Certification in CPR and First Aid (may be acquired during first three months of employment)
- Proof of completion of HIPAA & BBP/HIV courses (may be acquired during first three months of employment)
- Complete mandatory trainings provided by Parenting Matters
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:
- Priority consideration for experience in child-care, nursing, therapy, special education, or working with individuals with disabilities
- Able to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, and schedule form
- Able to redirect client and/or siblings during visits to appropriate activities and anticipate problem situations
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with families served and supervisor
- Meet the behavioral, social, and physical needs of the client
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be able to:
- Stand, walk, use hand and fingers to handle objects, tools, or controls
- Reach with hands and arms, bend, stoop, crouch, push, pull, and sit
- Lift or move up to 75 pounds
- Participate in outdoor games or activities with clients and sibling(s)
