POSITION SUMMARY:

This position supports the work of the Parenting Resource Center, Inc. (PRC), a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through resources, services, and prevention education to promote healthy, safe lifestyles for families within communities. The BIPOC Positive Grant Coordinator, herein referred to as “Coordinator” is responsible for overseeing grant activities to support the general development of a community coalition to address youth substance use prevention within the Austin Minnesota community. The Coordinator is responsible for overseeing member recruitment and retention, coordination of coalition meetings, implementation of initiatives, and assisting with reporting requirements for funders. Other duties include managing coalition public relations and communications, and planning and implementing substance use prevention communication campaigns.

This position carries a considerable responsibility for planning, implementing, and evaluating activities associated with the Coalition to include providing general oversight for coalition activities, associated projects and grant management. The Coordinator is responsible for working with community stakeholders in creating, promoting, and sustaining an efficient alcohol and other drug prevention coalition throughout the Austin Minnesota community. This includes organizing and sustaining the coalition, as well as monitoring all grant activities according to the specifications of the Department of Human Services, Behavioral Health Division.

The Program Coordinator can expect support from the MN Regional Prevention Coordinators, MN Department of Human Services ATOD Grant Supervisors, the PCN Coordinator Peer Group, and the Parenting Resource Center, Inc. in the performance of duties as requested.

This position requires some travel. Flexible hours are required for day and evening/weekend duties as needed. Additional duties as assigned by the MN DHS-Behavioral Health Division.

q. Knowledge of various community, county and regional institutions, prevention organizations, projects, and resources

r. General knowledge and understanding of policy work at the local level.

2. Community Organizing Assist the Austin Minnesota community in:

a. Defining “community” -- their demographics and core values-- in order to plan ATOD primary prevention strategies

b. Identifying key community members as part of assessing readiness/needs, assuring diversity in community participation

c. Engaging community leaders to foster participation and ownership in achieving prevention goals

d. Identifying prevention needs and resources by collecting relevant information

e. Collaborating with community members to achieve goals

f. Educating community members to develop and maintain community capacity by ongoing mentoring and training of community members

3. Planning and Evaluation

a. Assist the Austin Minnesota community in assessing community readiness and needs by collecting the most current local data through established assessment methods

b. The PCN Coordinator will implement strategies tailored to the needs of the local population in consultation with the grant designated evaluator and support team.

4. Public and Organizational Policy Assist the Austin Minnesota community in:

a. Identifying, organizing, and gaining support of local policy makers in order to develop, influence and implement prevention policies and cultural and social norms

b. Developing and maintaining relationships with media as a credible resource in order to Develop public support for effective prevention policy

c. Conducting prevention awareness campaigns to strengthen policies and norms regarding youth ATOD use/abuse 5. Education and Skill Development Assist the Austin Minnesota community in:

a. Selecting and delivering education and skill development activities

b. Utilizing current prevention theory and practice to prepare effective training activities

c. Delivering culturally sensitive education and training

d. Educating others so they are able to present accurate, appropriate information about ATOD issues

e. Dissemination of appropriate educational/informational materials to community members and stakeholders

f. Willingness to be flexible, versatile and/or tolerant in a changing work environment while maintaining effectiveness and efficiency

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Qualifications:

1. Associates Degree with 1 year of community organizing, project management and/or leadership experience, or

2. 3 years community organizing, project management and/or leadership experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

1. Bachelor’s Degree in Public Health, Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, Sociology, Education or related field.


LICENSE/CERTIFICATION REQUIRED:

1. Complete Substance Abuse Prevention Skills Training (SAPST) and Prevention Ethics to obtain Certified Prevention Professional (CPP) certification during the second year of employment and maintain certification in the remaining years of the grant.

2. The BIPOC Positive Grant Coordinator must pass a state criminal background check and have a valid driver's license.

3. CPR, First Aid and AED certification upon hire or within 60 days of hire.

*All training or certification fees must be repaid to the PRC if the employee leaves employment within 12 calendar months of receiving that certification.*

Salary : $46,000 - $60,000
