What are the responsibilities and job description for the PARENT EDUCATOR (PART-TIME) position at Parents As Teachers?
ANTICIPATED START DATE: 7/1/2025
LOCATION: Parents As Teachers
DETAILS: 12-month support staff position, with no fringe benefits. This is a part-time position, under 25 hours per week.
COMPENSATION: According to the Support Staff Pay Schedule within the Parent Educator (PAT) range. The hourly range for this position is $19.96- $24.28. Placement within the range is determined by like experience.
JOB SUMMARY: Delivers engaging services and family support through the Parents as Teachers program for the Affton School District. Promotes healthy development for each child by delivering developmental information, instructing prenatal parents, parents of infants, and preschool children. The Parent Educator helps to establish positive partnerships between home, school and the community and plays a vital role in supporting families and children from the very beginning toward school readiness.
QUALIFICATIONS:
A parent educator must meet at least one of the following (4) qualifications:
- Certification and/or a four year degree in either Early Childhood Education, EarlyChildhood Special Education, Elementary Education, Vocational Home Economics, Family and Consumer Sciences or Child Development and demonstrated ability in working with young children and their parents;
- A two-year associate degree or two-year certificate program in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or Nursing and demonstrated ability in working with young children and their parents;
- Sixty semester hours or more of credit from an academic degree granting institution which is contained within the United States Department of Education’s Directory of Post-Secondary Institutions and two years of successful experience in a program working with young children and their parents as approved by DESE; or
- Five years of successful experience in a program working with young children and their parents as approved by DESE and a high school diploma or equivalent. Individuals that qualify for training under this specific criteria may be required to complete additional training at the discretion of DESE.
Additional Qualifications:
- Successful completion of DESE-approved training in parent education (a minimum of 30 hours of training) and appropriate certification for Parents as Teachers
- Successful completion of DESE required Professional Development
- Successful completion of the Dial 4, ASQ 3, ASQ Social/Emotional and Health, Hearing and Vision Training
- Must have a current driver’s license or appropriate transportation for traveling
- Previous experience as a PAT or in an Early Childhood program preferred
- The ability to work days, evenings, and Saturdays is required
- The ability to use visit tracker software for case management/documentation is required
- Excellent communication skills both verbal and written are required
- The ability to write reports and business correspondence is required
- The ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from parents, groups of parents, community members and school staff is required
- The ability to build rapport with families, observe & document parent/child interactions, and child developmental milestones is required
- The ability to work with a multi-ethnic, multi-cultural population is required
