Position Summary:

The Phlebotomist, reporting to the Director of the Laboratory, is a non-exempt position responsible for collecting, labeling, processing, and delivering blood specimens for testing in the laboratory. This role involves using age-appropriate techniques for blood collection, maintaining equipment and medical supplies, and assisting with the coordination of blood drives, including screening and interviewing donors. The Phlebotomist ensures specimens are handled with care and in compliance with health and safety regulations. Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision, particularly in a stressful environment where appropriate action is required. The essential functions of the position include delivering routine therapy as delegated by a therapist, responding to codes and emergent calls, assessing patient conditions, and providing appropriate treatment. Additionally, the Phlebotomist monitors, records, and communicates patient conditions, educates patients and families about illnesses, and provides information about community support groups and resources. They are also responsible for monitoring, receiving, stocking, and distributing respiratory care supplies and medical gas cylinders, maintaining storage areas with required supply levels, and disassembling, cleaning, sterilizing equipment, performing preventative maintenance, and calibrating machines. Non-essential functions include serving both internal co-workers and external customers, clients, patients, contractors, and vendors, accessing or working with sensitive or confidential information, exhibiting a comprehensive understanding of healthcare regulatory and compliance (e.g., HIPAA), and applying policies and procedures, including knowledge of Business Office Standards and Recommended Practices. Additional duties may be assigned as needed.

Minimum Qualifications:

• High school graduate or equivalent (GED).
• An approved nationally accredited Certification from ASCP or NHA Preferred
• Basic Life Support (BLS) to be obtained within 30 days of hire
• Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
• Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action
• Valid Driver’s License.
