Assistant Director, Public Works (Vegetation) – Labor Grade 123 / Pay Range: $71,825.46 - $101,240.79
SUMMARY
The Assistant Director of Public Works works under the direction of Project Manager III. The Assistant Director is responsible for planning, directing, and supervising the overall activities of the Vegetation department.
MAJOR DUTIES
- Responsible for tasks related to planning, directing, and overseeing public works activity in their area of authority including preparing, submitting, and reviewing preliminary budgets and adjusting items for conformance to anticipate needs; authorizing and approving departmental expenditures; and consulting with officials responsible for construction, maintenance, or repair in area of authority
- Responsible for conducting supervisory responsibilities in accordance with parish’s policies and applicable laws including training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; and addressing complaints and resolving problems
- Responsible for completing administrative tasks related to running a department including time approvals, purchase order and invoice approvals
- May need to function in an interim director role if position is vacant or otherwise deposed
- In emergency situations, may be required to work at various locations, including, but not limited to, the parish owned pumping stations, sand bagging locations, parish roads and other locations as assigned
- Responsible for attending parish meetings and preparing documentation, presentations, and reports for parish administration, council, or general public as required
- Any other duties as assigned
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
· Education and Experience: High school diploma or GED equivalent_ and_ (7) years higher-level directly related experience is required, which includes supervisory experience of a medium to large sized staff, or
· Combined Secondary Education and Experience: A combination totaling (7) years of progressively higher-level education (post high school) leading to a bachelor’s degree or associate and higher-level directly related experience, or
· Experience: (7) years of higher-level directly related experience
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS – CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
· The incumbent is required to have a current, and the ability to maintain, state of Louisiana driver’s license.
· The incumbent is subject to pre-employment physical and drug screens with random drug testing thereafter.
· The position is designated as an Emergency Essential Tier I position and as such is subject to mandatory recall to the traditional or emergency worksite. Failure to do so may lead to disciplinary actions up to and include termination of employment.
· The incumbent is required to successfully complete the General Standards Examination, Right of Way Herbicide Examination and Aquatics Herbicide Application Examination within six months of hire date.
