Director, Fleet (DPW Fleet) – Labor Grade 126 / Pay Range: $83,153.10 - $117,204.53
SUMMARY
The Director, Fleet (Maintenance) is responsible for the management and daily operation of the Ascension Parish Government (APG) fleet maintenance program for all motor vehicles (land and water) and equipment. The Director, Fleet (Maintenance) ensures all fleet vehicles and equipment are properly maintained in compliance with federal and state law/regulations. APG’s fleet program includes all motor vehicles (land and water), heavy equipment, tractors, trailers, mowers, etc.
MAJOR DUTIES
· Responsible for the day-to-day management of staff, which includes administrative and mechanic positions
· Develops policy and procedures for the efficient maintenance and repair of APG’s fleet vehicles (land and water) and equipment
· Responsible for the maintenance and operation of the APG fueling station
· Develops policies and procedures for the acquisition of and the inventory of parts
· Develops a process for decision making regarding internal versus outsourced repairs
· Manages damaged equipment and works with contractor to close open insurance cases
· Implements and maintains a mechanic work-order system
· Develops most efficient organization for all vehicle and equipment repair and maintenance
· Responsible for conducting supervisory responsibilities in accordance with APG’s policies and applicable laws including training employees, planning, assigning and directing work, time and attendance, appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; and addressing complaints and resolving problems
· Any other duties as assigned
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
- Education and Experience: An associate’s degree from an accredited college in any field and (6) years of progressively higher-level, directly related experience in fleet operation management, which includes supervisory experience of a medium sized staff, or
- Combined Secondary Education and Experience: 8 years combined education (post high school) and progressively higher-level, directly related experience in fleet operation management, which includes supervisory experience of a medium sized staff, or
- Directly Related Experience: 8 years of progressively higher-level, directly related experience in fleet operation management, which includes supervisory experience of a medium sized staff.
*Public sector experience is preferred but not required.
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS – CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
· The incumbent is required to have a current, and the ability to maintain, state of Louisiana driver’s license.
· The incumbent is subject to pre-employment physical and drug screens with random drug testing thereafter.
· The position is designated as an Emergency Essential Tier II position and as such is subject to mandatory recall to the traditional or emergency worksite. Failure to do so may lead to disciplinary actions up to and include termination of employment.
· National Association of Fleet Administrators (NAFA) Fleet Management Association certification: Certified Automotive Fleet Manager (CAFM) is highly preferred but not required.
